00:00It's just such an American institution.
00:03I've been a fan of Jeopardy for all of my life.
00:06Jeopardy is iconic.
00:07It's this legendary show.
00:09Everyone loves it.
00:14I've been a Jeopardy fan my entire life.
00:16But being the next Jeopardy guest host, dream come true.
00:20I'm with the audience.
00:21I don't want me out here.
00:22I want to see Alex out here.
00:30Jeopardy is about deep wisdom and many layers of insight.
00:39You can start in the very beginning
00:40and maybe you don't even understand the words.
00:42But by the time you master it, you
00:43really feel like you're aware of a lot more going
00:45around the world around you.
00:47It's about making people that are smart the most
00:50important people in the room.
00:51And I just think it's so important to keep that going
00:56and to continue Alex's legacy.
00:58I loved Alex Trebek.
01:00And I was so inspired by him, especially by his courage
01:05toward the end of his life.
01:07There's a lot of nostalgia, I think,
01:08wrapped up in this show for me because I used to watch it
01:11when I was a kid and when I'd go on my weeks
01:13to my grandma and grandpa's house.
01:15It was a staple in their house every night.
01:17To be on this stage where Alex Turek hosted Jeopardy
01:20with such grace and intelligence for so long is really amazing.
01:23And it's very humbling.
01:24I've been a fan of Alex and Jeopardy since high school.
01:27I've competed four times on Celebrity Jeopardy.
01:29I won twice, and I lost very badly twice.
01:32I just wanted to make sure that I didn't walk away from here
01:35looking like an idiot, you know?
01:37I just wanted to be as smart as this group around here
01:41and these folks up here.
01:42They're incredible.
01:43I stood on this stage in my Tournament of Champions,
01:46and I told Alex I wanted a shot to host.
01:48Did you hear that, Austin?
01:49He's after my job.
01:51I can't believe I got that shot.
01:52I mean, how many people just say, this is a dream,
01:55and that dream comes true?
01:56Am I pronouncing lemur-ia right?
01:58Like lemurs.
01:59Lemur-ia.
02:00I think being a woman of science, as I am,
02:03is something that I'm obviously very passionate
02:06about presenting myself as.
02:08I really didn't grow up with a lot of female role models.
02:11You were born during an episode of Jeopardy?
02:14I was.
02:15I know I could never be a contestant
02:17because I'm not very good at trivia.
02:19So this was the closest I was ever going to get
02:22to the Jeopardy stage.
02:23So I had to jump at the chance.
02:25As a neurosurgeon, I understand the importance
02:27of exercising your brain,
02:28so I recommend watching Jeopardy every day.
02:31The minute I heard I was going to do it
02:32and started telling people, everybody lights up
02:35when you tell them you're going to be guest hosting Jeopardy.
02:37People you would never expect.
02:38They think it's the coolest thing in the world,
02:41and after doing it for a week of shows, they're right.
02:43There's so few times in life you can say
02:46you're doing something for the first time,
02:48and I'll remember all three of you.
02:50You were very gentle with me, and I appreciate that.
02:52Being a host, being behind that podium,
02:55knowing all the people, all the guest hosts
02:57that have been there, but more importantly,
02:59knowing the man who was behind that podium
03:01for all those years, and to stand there,
03:04something I will not forget ever.
03:06Alex did this for 37 years.
03:08The man was like butter.
03:10I have been in this business for 45 years,
03:12and the team here at Jeopardy,
03:14one of the best I have ever encountered in my life.
03:17Well, it's challenging.
03:19I didn't realize quite how challenging.
03:21I watched an awful lot of Alex Trebek,
03:23and I sort of started to understand.
03:25Let's play Jeopardy.
03:26Here are your categories.
