00:00You don't typically get to see women kick ass and crack jokes and if they need to be saved or if they're being vulnerable or having a moment.
00:13We do it with each other. We don't necessarily need a man to save us.
00:17That was unprecedented for a young woman of color to star in a one hour action drama on a main big network and it was a global show.
00:41You haven't really been able to see that again in the same way. I think there was a little run of it back in that time when I did it.
00:51But I think Hollywood just quickly reverted to what it's comfortable with and you just don't get to see a lot of stories like this being told with women at the center of it.
01:06So it is having people in positions of power. Luckily for me when I was young it was James Cameron who isn't threatened by women and in fact likes to see women in those positions of power.
01:18But there aren't a lot of men who are comfortable with it.
01:22Luckily now we have Gabrielle Union as an executive producer.
01:37This is her third project and she's opening doors and paving the way and creating the type of content that she wants to see.
01:46I love that you get to see women at the forefront of a genre that you just typically don't get to see.
01:54We've always been capable. We've always had these ideas. We just have never been in positions of power to actually get them on the air.
02:01So the more real diversity and inclusion that exists in the power positions that get to green light shows, the more that you will see.
02:16As actresses we have to resist the stereotype of how Hollywood wants to see women and I think it's because Hollywood has typically been run by men.
02:45And the way that they shape and mold female characters or even edit you is you have to be much more one note and appropriate to serve their male dominated stories.
