00:00The arrival of Sylvester Stallone on La Croisette!
00:18Two metaphors. Life is a race and life is a fight.
00:30Life is a one-strike baseball game. You get one chance at life and you better fight to keep it.
00:43You just don't, oh, I think I'll try it again. No, you don't get a chance to try it again.
00:48Dying is easy, living is hard.
01:00There's a line in the movie that Rocky says, well, my father told me I wasn't born with much of a brain, so I better develop my body.
01:10Well, that kind of happened to me at around 13, so I took it to heart.
01:13There was a struggling actor in New York City that he said he would put Vaseline on him and wear this jacket to keep him from freezing when he was living in a car or just anywhere.
01:38And he showed me pieces around this coat where he says, well, this is where a dog attacked me. He says, this coat saved my life.
01:45It's a fictitional character, but I think most people have a Rocky in them, and that is a man who is dying to get out,
02:14dying to do whatever he wants. It's more of a state of mind.
02:31I've always felt that if you give your best to something, and even if you don't win, but you know you've given the best,
02:38and unfortunately you just don't have the equipment to overpower your foe, you have nothing to be ashamed of.
02:42And I feel that anyone, whatever their chosen profession, if they can at least have the opportunity to try.
02:49If they fail, alright, but at least give them the opportunity. That's all.
02:54Nobody figured it out. It just happened. It was luck. You know, honest guys, there was no plan. It was just blind luck.
03:15It's been really rough in the past 15 years. Life's changed. I've been through a lot of ups and downs in my life, but this has definitely shown me that it really is not over.
03:46Family is everything, and that's the greatest award you can get, because at the end, when you're just laying there on your deathbed,
03:53you're going to be basically judged on how you raised your kids and what you've left behind.
04:00Rambo deals with the very dark side of nature that unfortunately a lot of people live with, because they feel isolated.
04:52The last 30 years are friggin' crazy. Really crazy. And that's where we've dropped the ball. Mental health.
05:22In the first one, I didn't know which direction to go, because it was experimental, and it mostly was more dramatic, R-rated, a lot of violence.
05:33The second one, I think we went too far in the comedy. I believe that we finally got it right on the third one.
05:40It's kind of like marriage. Just saying.
05:52I've gotten older, and your philosophies change. You see the state of the world. There's no way you can't be affected by what you see on television, what you see in the street.
06:10And so it definitely sinks into the work, too. I think it's now a bit more, I wouldn't say pessimistic, but it's questioning.
06:20You know, what is life? What is it all about? Is it worth it?
06:26I didn't expect it at all, and I don't remember the standing ovation. I was in shock. Is it really? You're kidding.
06:45So I have to get a TiVo. Just the mere fact that these incredible people were applauding, it makes me realize that in life, it's really never over until it's over.
06:58And it indicates that people should never give up trying. So I think it was a very, very positive message for everybody.
07:44The toughest opponent in the world is when I'm looking in the mirror every morning, and I say, okay, the toughest opponent you're ever going to have to face is that guy in the mirror every morning.
