00:00I am here at the Detour Animal Care and Control Center here in Detour, Michigan.
00:06And I'm here to donate some on both sides of the Animal Shelter to help the dogs and the cats.
00:20I learned that dogs and cats, if they stay in the Animal Shelter for too long,
00:24they could possibly get euthanized.
00:26I made it my life and goal mission to help as many dogs and cats as I possibly can.
00:42I was diagnosed with a speech delay, comprehension delay, and a fine motor skills delay.
00:47My sister is using a sewing machine, and she was always making hair bows and wigs for the girls I wanted to sew.
00:53But, you know, she was sort of kind of hesitant on me to use the sewing machine because, you know,
00:58I had the delays, fine motor skills, I might hurt my hands in some sort of way.
01:02But my mom had an amazing idea that if I was to be able to cut the fabric, it could also develop my fine motor skills.
01:09I sat down and I thought, and I was curious upon how come there wasn't any dogs, cats, or animals being helped or infected by the hurricanes.
01:27So I just thought to myself, since because I was already making bow ties for people,
01:31why if people look good on bow ties and they look dapper and adorable and cute, why can't dogs and cats?
01:40I decided to go to the SBCA and ship some of my bow ties to the SBCA to help the dogs and cats there, you know,
01:53look more dapper, noticeable, so that it could have like an effect on them and they'll look more cuter and increase their chances of getting adopted faster.
02:01But unfortunately, when I was there, I learned that dogs and cats, if they stay in the animal shelter for too long,
02:08they could possibly get euthanized. And that really hurt me a lot as a person, because I, because my family is somewhat adopted.
02:15To help us choose the winner of this coveted title, Secretary of Rescue Dogs, please welcome everyone, my pal, Sir Darius Brown.
02:42And I love seeing all the finalists dressed up in the custom bow ties I made for them.
02:46I was just in awe and speechless. It was an amazing and happy experience for me.
02:54It's really important to make sure you look into younger and older dogs because they're both equal and you shouldn't compare them differently.
03:12You need to have an open mind about wanting to have an older dog compared to a younger dog because younger dogs do get adopted quicker than older dogs.
03:22One of my goals is to also have like a foster home for dogs. If dogs do come out of horrible or inhumane conditions, they'll be able to go to the safe house or they'll be able to have fun there.
