Here's how cities across the US are helping house homeless veterans.

00:00I was homeless because I never fit in nowhere, and I just kept moving.
00:13We leaned in, and together,
00:18I said that we were going to end veterans homelessness in New Orleans by the end of 2014.
00:24I've got windows. Look at the view.

00:38And that's truly what we set out to accomplish.
00:45We set out to get homeless veterans off the streets,
00:48but we wanted to bring the veteran community together,
00:50to attack that problem of homelessness.
00:53I just fell apart and lost everything.
00:58I found myself in the streets around Culver City and Santa Monica.
01:12It feels good.
01:13Sometimes I walk around an apartment with no TV or nothing on,
01:16and just singing for no reason at all, but I'm just happy.
01:32Because that person is using the emergency rooms for their primary health care,
01:39they may be cycling in and out of jail or prison.

01:46They're really suffering out on our streets.
01:48What we know is that permanent supportive housing is actually 40% cheaper
01:53than leaving someone on the streets.
