00:00The team's out in the field rescuing animals and then they're going to be starting to bring
00:12them here now.
00:13So it was a lot of work.
00:14So
00:40Snowmocart has helped over 1,400 animals during this disaster, including dogs and cats, but
00:47also many, many more horses, goats, alpacas, llamas, chickens, sheep, emus, a number of
01:26other animals.
01:53What I think we can take from the Australian experience is that we do know now the majority
01:58of the vertebrate animals in the path of the fires were small.
02:02And it's likely to be a similar case in other parts of the world that are equally fire-primed.
02:07So though the big and charismatic mammals and birds in particular may get the most of
02:12the attention, it may well be that it's the smaller species that are actually, in terms
02:17of numbers, suffering the biggest losses.
02:20One of the main purposes of this research is to just give people an indication of the
02:24extent to which these mega events are changing the environment and depleting the native biodiversity
02:31that we have.
02:32I think in terms of the big picture, one thing that we really need to be looking at is how
02:37quickly can we decarbonise?
02:39How quickly can we stop our manic land clearing?
