00:00Top national security officials for U.S. President Donald Trump discussed war plans in a Signal
00:08group chat that mistakenly included a prominent journalist.
00:13Jeffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, wrote about his unprecedented experience on
00:19Monday, saying he didn't think it was real at first.
00:22The people I know who are in this administration, nevertheless, it wasn't until Saturday that
00:27I was reasonably certain that this wasn't a hoax, that I had actually mistakenly been
00:33included in a conversation of the principals' committee, essentially the leaders of the
00:39national security community, including the head of the CIA, in this discussion of whether
00:45—
00:46U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was one of the officials who had shared information
00:51in the group chat.
00:52After the story quickly spread, he tried to discredit Goldberg.
00:56You're talking about a deceitful and highly discredited so-called journalist who's made
01:04a profession of peddling hoaxes time and time again to include the, I don't know, the hoaxes
01:11of Russia, Russia, Russia, or the fine people on both sides hoax, or suckers and losers
01:17hoax.
01:18So this is a guy that peddles in garbage.
01:20This is what he does.
01:22Meanwhile, Trump claims to be unaware.
01:25I don't know anything about it.
01:26I'm not a big fan of The Atlantic.
01:28To me, it's a magazine that's going out of business.
01:30I think it's not much of a magazine, but I know nothing about it.
01:34The story sparked concern among both Democratic and Republican lawmakers about how sensitive
01:39information could so easily leak.
01:42The National Security Council said the messages appeared authentic and added it was looking
01:46into how Goldberg's number was added to the chat.
