NVIDIA is out here flexing, saying they shipped twice as many RTX 50 series GPUs compared to the RTX 40 launch. But when you actually look at the details, it’s clear this is just marketing spin.
Still can’t find an RTX 50 card? You’re not alone. NVIDIA’s “shortage” isn’t what it seems, and MSRP? Basically a fantasy at this point. In this video, I break down why their “double the supply” claim is misleading, how NVIDIA is controlling stock, and why you’re paying way over MSRP for these GPUs.

00:00All right, so apparently NVIDIA is out here flexing,
00:02saying that they've shipped twice as many
00:05RTX 50 series graphics cards
00:07compared to the RTX 40 series at launch.
00:10Now that is according to an article
00:12that I was reading on videocards.net,
00:16and I gotta be real with you,
00:19this claim is wildly misleading.
00:21Once you look at the actual details, check this out.
00:23Like if you're watching this,
00:24and you've actually tried to buy
00:26one of these RTX 50 series cards,
00:28you're probably sitting there thinking,
00:30you know, after reading this article,
00:32wait, okay, where are all the graphics cards then?
00:35Because I sure as hell can't find one.
00:37And yeah, you know what, exactly, that is the whole issue.
00:41So let's talk about it because NVIDIA is playing
00:43some very, very clever marketing games here,
00:47making things sound great,
00:49when in reality this launch has been,
00:51you know, a mess for consumers.
00:53And also, you know, just like a quick side note here,
00:57what's MSRP?
00:58It's basically a fantasy at this point.
01:00It's a suggestion, not a real price
01:03anyone actually pays at launch.
01:05So let's break it down.
01:07NVIDIA proudly claims to have shipped
01:09twice as many RTX 50 series cards in five weeks
01:12than the RTX 40 series, but it's misleading.
01:15No kidding.
01:16NVIDIA released a new slide for the GDC 2025 conference
01:19that is coming up soon.
01:21They discuss some RTX technologies
01:23and focus on the RTX 50 series as a whole.
01:25NVIDIA claims to have shipped twice as many 50s cards
01:29as the RTX 40 series within the first five weeks.
01:32Let's break this down, the twice as many claim.
01:36So here's what happened.
01:37NVIDIA is out here saying,
01:39we shipped double the amount of graphics cards this time.
01:42And on paper, yeah, that sounds pretty good.
01:46But the reason that number is so high
01:47is because they launched four models
01:50in the first five weeks, while with the 40 series,
01:55they only launched one, which was the RTX 4090.
01:59So yeah, no kidding.
02:01They shipped more graphics cards this time.
02:02You had four times the product lineup in the same timeframe.
02:06That's like saying, you know, if you have a restaurant,
02:09my restaurant sold twice as many meals this month
02:11compared to last year,
02:12when last year you only had one thing on the menu
02:14and now you got an entire buffet.
02:16It's technically true, but also completely misleading
02:19when you realize how they're spinning it.
02:23The shortage supply, at the end of the day,
02:26the shortage supply is manufactured.
02:29You know, if you're actually trying to buy one of these
02:31cards, you already know that, you know,
02:32finding them in stock is a pain.
02:34NVIDIA keeps saying we ship more,
02:35but what they aren't saying is they're also trickling out
02:38supply in a very, very controlled way.
02:44Now there are reports that I've read
02:45that NVIDIA has plenty of inventory,
02:48but they're holding back stock on purpose
02:51to create artificial scarcity.
02:53Why?
02:54Because when something's hard to get, people want it more.
02:57And when demand is high, prices stay high,
03:00it's classic supply manipulation.
03:02And dude, it's so obvious.
03:03You can't tell me you ship twice as many graphics cards
03:06than in the same breath, act like, you know,
03:09oh no, we're sold out.
03:11I guess we have to, you know, wait for restocks.
03:13Like bro, come on.
03:15MSRP is a sales tactic, not a real thing.
03:19So let's talk about MSRP
03:20because this is one of my biggest pet peeves of all time.
03:27When a graphics card launches,
03:29MSRP is basically a joke at this point.
03:34NVIDIA has been under fire
03:36for mishandling the RTX 50 series launch.
03:39Each model since launch has not been available
03:41at the promised MSRP,
03:42which increases the frustration among gamers.
03:45From our perspective, sharing such slides,
03:47which proved nothing, only caused more confusion.
03:51According to Tweaktown, NVIDIA is working with partners
03:53to improve availability of cards at MSRP.
03:59So like NVIDIA says, the RTX 5090 starts at 1999, two grand.
04:06And everyone's like, hey, you know, that's not too bad.
04:09But then, you know, try finding one at that price.
04:11Good luck.
04:12So what actually happens?
04:13The card drops, sells out in a couple of minutes,
04:15and then suddenly the only ones that are left
04:18are some overpriced variants from the board partners
04:19like MSI, et cetera.
04:21So you're looking at 2,400, 2,700,
04:24and sometimes even $3,000 for a card
04:27that was supposed to be a dollar under two grand.
04:30And here's the best part.
04:31NVIDIA gets to pretend like this isn't their fault.
04:34They can be like, hey, we set the MSRP.
04:36It's the retailers and board partners
04:38that are pricing it higher.
04:41But let's be real.
04:42NVIDIA controls the supply.
04:43They know exactly what's happening.
04:45So who wins here?
04:47Who wins here?
04:49NVIDIA.
04:50They get to say their launch was a huge success
04:53while keeping those prices artificially high.
04:55Look good on paper.
04:57Investors are happy.
04:58They don't have to discount anything.
05:00So who loses?
05:02Who loses?
05:05Us, gamers, PC builders,
05:07the people trying to actually buy these cards.
05:09We get stuck in an artificial shortage
05:11while NVIDIA gets to, you know, sit back and cash in.
05:14Must be nice.
05:16And I get it, NVIDIA is a business
05:17and businesses exist to make money.
05:19But the launch strategy sucks for consumers.
05:23It's frustrating.
05:24It makes people feel like they have to scramble
05:26to get a graphics card before the scalpers do.
05:28And it creates this weird pressure to overpay
05:31just to get your hands on a card.
05:33Look, I love gaming.
05:35I love hardware.
05:36I love building PCs.
05:37But I also hate seeing big companies
05:40play these games with us.
05:42The reality is this was not a smooth launch.
05:44This wasn't an example of NVIDIA doing better
05:47than last time.
05:48This was a carefully orchestrated way
05:50to make it seem like they were more successful
05:54than they actually were.
05:55And that's why I'm calling it out
05:56because as someone who actually sells gaming PCs,
05:59I see this nonsense all the time.
06:01And I know firsthand how frustrating it is
06:04for people trying to build or upgrade their rigs.
06:08You know, it sucks.
06:10Not a good time, a bad time even.
06:13But hey, what do you guys think?
06:15Do you think this launch has been BS?
06:17I'm guessing you probably agree.
06:19Or do you think NVIDIA is just playing the game
06:22like any other company?
06:23Drop me a comment.
06:24Let me know your thoughts.
06:25And if you like this breakdown,
06:26hit the like button and all that other crap.
06:27All right, we'll see you in the next time.
06:29We'll see you next time.
06:30Wait, we'll see you in the next, I don't know, bye.
