00:00Musicians, especially rock stars, are well-known for their outrageous personalities.
00:05While some can turn off their self-absorbed rock-and-roll personas offstage, others are
00:09just plain rotten.
00:11Billy Idol seems to be one of those rock stars who would likely leave his image behind when
00:16he steps offstage.
00:17Sure, he seems cool and sexy and slightly dangerous when he's crooked-lipped crooning
00:21White Wedding for thousands of people, but you can imagine him quietly retiring to his
00:26hotel room for some tea after a show.
00:28At least, that's what you'd think, if it weren't for his notorious behavior during his stay
00:32in Bangkok in the early 90s.
00:35Idol cooped himself up in a series of hotels and engaged in an extended binge of debauchery
00:40that would make Satan weep.
00:41Somehow, during his wild fling, he found time during his three-week stay to do a reported
00:46$200,000 worth of damage to one penthouse suite.
00:51As is to be expected when Billy Idol is partaking in drugs and sex and ransacking rooms, the
00:55military was brought in to help matters.
00:58Idol was strapped to a stretcher by soldiers of the Thai military and forcibly dismissed
01:02from the premises.
01:04Tommy Lee was a founding member of Motley Crue, one of the most proudly debauched and
01:08depraved bands in rock history.
01:10It's all laid out in mind-blowing detail in the collective Crue bio, The Dirt, although
01:15Lee got into some antics on his own, such as an off-and-on relationship with Pamela
01:19Anderson that resulted in a lucrative honeymoon tape, as well as some jail time.
01:24Per the Los Angeles Times, Lee had a long rap sheet of violent charges, which a California
01:28judge noted in 1998 when he sentenced the drummer to six months in jail, plus three
01:33years probation, for spousal battery.
01:36Lee reportedly assaulted Anderson while she was holding their baby son, because she wouldn't
01:40tell her parents to cancel a visit.
01:42MTV News reported that Lee was later charged with inciting a riot at a 1997 concert after
01:48he assisted bandmate Nikki Sixx in pouring beer on a security guard's head.
01:53According to Court TV, Lee was sued on another occasion when a 4-year-old boy drowned in
01:57his swimming pool during his son's birthday party.
02:00He was cleared of any wrongdoing there, but Lee got himself back in the news once more
02:04in 2018, when The Blast reported that he landed in the hospital after a fistfight with his
02:09adult son.
02:10What a mess.
02:12Fans of rock music perennially hold Eric Clapton in the highest esteem when it comes to listing
02:17off the greatest guitarists in history.
02:19It's fair to include him in those arguments, as he's written some of the most timeless
02:22songs and is known for some of the most classic riffs and solos ever.
02:26It's when he talks out loud that things sometimes take a turn.
02:30Clapton has usually been the first to admit that he's greatly indebted to the black blues
02:34musicians who came before him, but if they had been privy to his outburst at a 1976 concert
02:40in Birmingham, England, they might not have been so keen to let him fly their flag.
02:45During his outburst, a drug- and booze-addled Clapton shouted to his concert crowd to, quote,
02:50"...keep Britain white!"
02:51He also announced his support of Enoch Powell.
02:54If you don't know who that is, look him up yourself and see how that flied today.
02:57If you didn't look it up, let's just spit it out for you.
03:00He made it very clear that he did not want people of color in what he thought should
03:04be a white country.
03:05The years since have seen Clapton very apologetic, blaming his addiction for his behavior.
03:10But even in remorse, he can't quite avoid putting his foot in his mouth, saying things
03:14like, quote, "...half of my friends were black," and, quote, "...I dated a black woman."
03:18Oof.
03:20Not a good look, dude.
03:21Not a good look.
03:23Billy Bob Thornton, while not acting on screen, also plays in a band.
03:27He really, really wants you to know that, and to not ask him about his day job.
03:31His band, the Boxmasters, had a run of gigs they were promoting on a Toronto radio station
03:36when the host, Gian Gomeschi, had the misfortune of mentioning that Thornton had been in some
03:40movies in the past.
03:42Entertainment Weekly reported that Thornton bristled at his work being brought up and
03:46then gave a masterclass about being difficult on the air.
03:49Questions were evaded or flat-out ignored with stunning tenacity.
03:53Billy Bob, you guys formed only in the last couple of years, right?
03:56I don't know what you're talking about.
03:59Gomeschi noted that the band was currently on tour with Willie Nelson.
04:02Pretty cool, right?
04:04Thornton's response?
04:05I've never met him.
04:09The air was thick with ridicule and hostility, and Thornton eventually said the host had
04:14been instructed not to bring up his acting career.
04:17The Boxmasters were supposed to play a song in the studio, but Thornton refused to join,
04:21apparently making up a lie that he didn't have his drums with him and then just bouncing
04:25from the studio altogether.
04:27Funnily enough, the Toronto shows he was promoting ended with the band being booed because of
04:31his on-air antics, according to Rolling Stone.
04:34Two subsequent shows were canceled.
04:36Sebastian Bach, the frontman of 80s and 90s hair metal veteran Skid Row, holds a special
04:41place in the hearts of music fans, despite having a dicey history offstage.
04:45Bach wore a T-shirt in 1989 that mocked the AIDS crisis.
04:49And you know on the Raid logo it says, kills Boggs dead underneath it.
04:52Well this says, AIDS kills f-----g dead.
04:55And that same year chucked a bottle from the stage that ended up breaking a woman's nose.
05:00He didn't exactly have the most peaceful 1989.
05:03In 2010, Bach was visiting a bar with live music in his Ontario hometown.
05:07Bach asked the singer if he and his buddies could come up and sing a little bit, and the
05:11musician directed him to the pub's manager.
05:14This didn't go over well with Bach.
05:16Not sure why a local entertainer wouldn't want the singer of a world-famous rock band
05:20to join him, Bach and his group began to loudly heckle the artist, even throwing ice cubes
05:26at him from their seats.
05:28The staff at the pub understandably grew more nervous, and eventually asked Bach's party
05:32to leave.
05:33The Skid Row singer wanted to take his wine with him, and when that request was denied,
05:37Bach smashed the glass, prompting the owner to call the cops.
05:41Unsurprisingly, Sebastian also took offense to that, the owner put him in a bear hug,
05:45and Bach bit him.
05:47After he cooled down, Bach had the usual Canadian sense of humor about the whole incident, saying,
05:51quote,
05:52"...America gets rock stars a little more than Canada does."
05:55The frontman of the traveling foursome of hedonism that is Motley Crue is someone you
05:59would probably expect to be a little… wild.
06:02But Vince Neil takes that stage character and ramps it up even higher when he's in the
06:06real world.
06:08You may have heard how Vince crashed his car in 1984 while boozed up, killing his passenger,
06:12Hanoi Rocks drummer Nicholas Razzle-Dingley.
06:15He got off almost completely scot-free, serving about 15 days and then five years of probation.
06:21He earned himself a few more DUIs over the years, one in 2007 and another in 2010.
06:27But it's a Las Vegas altercation involving actor Nicolas Cage that's the most curious.
06:32A young female fan was attempting to ask Cage for an autograph, which Neil somehow mistook
06:36as an aggressive maneuver and yanked her by the hair, pulling her to the ground.
06:41The seemingly intoxicated Neil was then charged at by an even more in-the-bag Nicolas Cage,
06:46who pulled Neil away and bear-hugged him, loudly stating his love for the man.
06:51Cage escorted the singer away from trouble, but Neil was still charged with misdemeanor
06:55battery.
06:56Boy George was the androgynous leader of the 80s band Culture Club.
07:00Known for his flamboyant behavior, the singer, whose real name is George O'Dowd, also privately
07:05suffered from a crippling drug addiction throughout his later career.
07:09Several incidents involved him possessing cocaine or admitting to being on heroin during
07:13his 80s success, but most of them involved him hurting only himself.
07:17That changed in 2009 when Boy George was attempting to conduct a naked photo session in his home
07:23with a male escort.
07:24Cocaine soon entered the equation, and a little later, Boy George became increasingly agitated
07:29with the man, accusing him of trying to hack into his computer.
07:32When the escort tried to protest, George handcuffed him to a wall fixture and retreated to another
07:37room, returning with all sorts of straps, adult toys, and chains.
07:41The rock star then began beating the escort with said chains.
07:45The poor man eventually broke free and fled into the streets.
07:49O'Dowd earned himself a 15-month prison sentence, but celebrity being what it is, he only served
07:55The band R.E.M. has made a pretty good career of making music while also sidestepping a
07:59lot of the notoriety and scandals that can plague a rock band.
08:03Really, the most behind-the-music-y episode of their career is when their poor drummer
08:07suffered an aneurysm on stage in the 90s.
08:10But in 2002, guitarist Peter Buck embarked on a flight and attempted to make up for all
08:14those years of boring good behavior at once.
08:18On the Seattle to London plane ride, Buck began downing wine like it was the end of
08:22the world, chugging 15 glasses and becoming increasingly belligerent to the flight staff.
08:27He was cut off, see, too little too late in the dictionary, but the shenanigans didn't
08:31stop there.
08:32He tried to grab a bottle of champagne from the galley but was denied.
08:35He punched the wall of the plane loudly and tried to pull a knife from a serving cart.
08:39He brandished a cup of yogurt and spoon like they were weapons, and splattered several
08:44people with a dairy product.
08:45Buck then tried to open the plane door, saying he was, quote, going home.
08:49At one point, he confused a serving cart with a CD player and also claimed a perfect
08:54stranger was his wife.
08:56These mile-high adventures should have made the assault charges levied against him stick,
09:00but alas, Peter Buck was found innocent.
09:02The Beach Boys' chief songwriter, Brian Wilson, took things to the next level in the mid-'60s,
09:07creating pop symphonies like Pet Sounds, which is universally regarded as one of the greatest
09:12records ever made.
09:13Wilson's bandmate and cousin, Mike Love, however, didn't agree.
09:17device when he heard a sample of what would become Pet Sounds, Love barked,
09:21"'Who's gonna hear this s----?
09:22The ears of a dog?'
09:24Ironically, that gave Wilson the idea to name it Pet Sounds.
09:28Love would also go on the offensive several times.
09:30In 1992, according to Associated Press, he successfully sued Wilson for songwriting credits
09:35on dozens of old Beach Boys tunes.
09:38In 2005, according to Today, Love sued Wilson again, claiming he, quote,
09:42He shamelessly misappropriated their band by distributing a Beach Boys CD to promote
09:47Smile, his solo album that had originally been a Beach Boys project in the 60s.
09:52According to Rolling Stone, Wilson scrapped that album because Love had been so critical
09:56of it.
09:57Brian Wilson isn't the only seemingly untouchable icon to earn Mike Love's ire.
10:02On the night the Beach Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988,
10:06Love went off on the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.
10:09The Beach Boys have continued to do about, we did about 180 performances last year.
10:15I'd like to see the mop tops match that."
10:17Love then continued the challenge, saying,
10:20"'I'd like to see Mick Jagger get out on this stage and do I Get Around vs. Jumpin' Jack
10:26Flash any day now.'"
10:28As the lead singer and chief creative force behind Smashing Pumpkins, Billy Corgan snarled
10:33his way to alternative rock superstardom in the 90s, with songs of anger and dissatisfaction
10:38like Zero and Today, millions of jaded young people found an ally in Corgan, who, over
10:43the past 20-odd years, has made a second career in starting feuds.
10:48For example, he dated Hole's Courtney Love before her marriage to Kurt Cobain and then
10:51again after his death, according to Us Magazine.
10:55Corgan also worked on Hole's Celebrity Skin, which he then publicly trashed, saying it
10:59left a bad taste in his mouth.
11:01Years later, according to Rolling Stone, he wrote songs for a Love solo album that were
11:05included against his wishes, leading him to use Twitter to dismiss her, saying she
11:09should go away and live off her husband's money.
11:12And that's just how he treats people he knows.
11:15Corgan has more vitriol for strangers.
11:17According to Queerty, in 2011, he directed Verbal Abuse at a trans woman, while in 2016,
11:22The Guardian noted that Corgan went on The Conservative Alex Jones Show and compared
11:27politically progressive social justice warriors to both 1930s KKK members and the Maoists
11:33who started a communist revolution in China.
11:36The world of metal isn't exactly known for subtlety or a gentle persuasion, but you may
11:40be surprised at how many growling metal frontmen are thoughtful and caring people.
11:44Tim Lambesis of As I Lay Dying is not one of those people.
11:48A popular Christian rock singer from Carlsbad is now admitting he hired a hitman to kill
11:52his wife.
11:53In May 2013, Lambesis solicited someone to off his wife of eight years, offering a cool
11:59thousand dollars and detailed instructions on how to go about doing it.
12:03His wife, Megan, had filed for divorce the previous year, but that's the only nugget
12:07of speculation as to why he wanted to have the mother of his three adopted children murdered.
12:12The only problem was that the person he was enlisting to carry out this grim act was actually
12:17an undercover police officer.
12:19He later pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six years but ended up serving just under
12:23three, gaining release in December 2016.
12:26As for his band?
12:27Well, he's back fronting the group who supported him during his trial and jailing.
12:32Compassionate friends?
12:33You decide.
12:35As the one-hit-wonder performer of a novelty song about drugs, Afro Man is known primarily
12:39for 2001's Because I Got High.
12:42Both a celebration of and a cautionary tale against smoking marijuana, it details how
12:46a man's life goes terribly wrong because he neglects to take care of a series of escalating
12:51responsibilities, choosing instead to get high.
12:54At first, Afro Man seemed like a jovial, chilled-out presence.
12:58One guesses why, both on his record and in the video featuring noted fictional stoners
13:03Jay and Silent Bob.
13:04But the next time Afro Man made headlines, it was because of an ugly incident at a 2015
13:09concert in Biloxi, Mississippi.
13:12According to TMZ, while Afro Man was performing, a female fan got up on stage and danced next
13:17to him, to which he responded by flipping around and decking her in the face.
13:22According to witnesses, the woman crumbled to the ground, crying and bleeding, while
13:25Afro Man continued with his song.
13:28Before long, police had ended the concert, arrested Afro Man, and booked him on an assault
13:33charge.
13:34The fan, Haley Bird, sued the company that owns the concert venue and Afro Man himself.
13:39As reported in TMZ, especially on account of how she may have suffered a concussion
13:43from the punch, a judge ruled in her favor, ordering Afro Man to pay out $65,000.
13:49You might think being shot nine times would give you a more positive outlook on life,
13:54like in a live-well-and-be-good-to-people way, especially toward your own children and
13:58maybe strangers you meet during your travels.
14:01But 50 Cent, or Curtis Jackson, still harbors resentment toward many, blood relative or
14:06not, but he's not afraid to speak openly about his grudges.
14:0950 Cent has a son named Marquise, and to say they're estranged is a bit of an understatement.
14:14The two have been at odds for over a decade, and when 50 saw an Instagram post of a 21-year-old
14:19Marquise in 2018, he publicly commented that if his son got hit by a bus, he, quote,
14:24"...wouldn't have a bad day."
14:26Can you feel the love?
14:27If you were feeling left out, the rapper can also turn his ire toward the general public.
14:32He went on live video to mock a teenage airport employee, thinking he would razz on the youth
14:37of today.
14:38He even put the kid on blast in the video, even as the poor guy just tried to avoid eye
14:42contact and work his job.
14:4450 took this behavior as being on drugs, stating that the teen's pupils were dilated as
14:49definitive proof.
14:50He hot as a motherf---- right here in the airport.
14:56Pupils dilated, everything looking like this.
14:59The video went viral, and attracted the attention of many, including the teen's parents, who
15:03pointed out that their son was not a druggie but did have autism and social anxiety.
15:0750 eventually gave a weak apology.
15:10Maybe he'll get some dope rhymes out of the whole ordeal, but probably not.
15:14Kanye is often lauded as a musical and production genius.
15:18His larger-than-life ego fully believes this, and he acts like it when he takes the stage.
15:23Well, to be more accurate, whenever he feels like rolling up to the venue and eventually
15:27sauntering onto the stage, because Kanye is perpetually late for his job.
15:31Never one to shy away from taking the stage several hours late, or going on bizarre rants
15:36between songs, or even canceling shows on the fly, Wes still has fans in his corner
15:41for some reason.
15:42Honestly, we don't understand how you can support a dude who does things like, oh, we
15:47don't know, berate a person with a disability for not standing up?
15:51In 2014, Kanye was feeling very much in the moment and requested that every single person
15:56in the crowd stand up.
15:57He felt that not everyone was partaking, so he stopped the show for a bit and had the
16:02house lights turned on.
16:03The fans at the Sydney concert just weren't meeting his demands, it seemed, and he stated
16:08that he literally could not perform this song until everyone rose.
16:12One fan couldn't help it.
16:13They were in a wheelchair.
16:15Wes continually brought it to the crowd's attention that this person just wasn't following
16:19his orders, despite concertgoers near the fan trying to point out that this person,
16:23you know, physically could not stand up.
16:26Wes, after way too long, finally took the hint and let the person off blast.
16:32That brush with idiocy didn't teach him any lessons, as another show in Australia a few
16:35days later saw Wes telling the audience that people who weren't standing needed to show
16:40him proof of disability, whatever that means.
16:44Jennifer Lopez is a major actress and a mega-successful pop singer, but she insists she's still just
16:49a normal person, belaboring the point on her hit single, Jenny from the Block.
16:53There's quite a bit of evidence, however, that Lopez doesn't care to mingle with common
16:57folk.
16:58According to Star Magazine, one of the singer's associates told them,
17:01"...she doesn't speak to salespeople, restaurant or hotel staff, or flight attendants.
17:06She only talks through her assistants."
17:07Also, on one occasion, a flight attendant allegedly asked Lopez if he could get her
17:12a beverage.
17:13The flight attendant said,
17:14"...but Jennifer refused to acknowledge me.
17:16She turned her head away and told her personal assistant,
17:19"'Please tell him that I'd like a Diet Coke and lime.'"
17:22And in 2012, a maid working at a hotel in Germany told Us Weekly that she asked Lopez
17:27for her autograph during his stay.
17:30Assistants rejected her on Lopez's behalf, and a day later, the maid said she was fired
17:34after Lopez complained.
17:36Lopez apparently isn't much kinder to famous people.
17:39In a 1998 interview with Movieline, she gave her shockingly unfiltered opinions of her
17:43actress competition.
17:45Lopez called Cameron Diaz,
17:46"...a lucky model who's been given a lot of opportunities I just wish she would have done
17:51more with."
17:52She also noted that Winona Ryder, quote, "...gets nominated for Oscars, but I've never heard
17:56anyone in the public or among my friends say, oh, I love her."
18:00Gwyneth Paltrow may have gotten the worst of it, though, as Lopez said she couldn't,
18:04quote, "...remember anything she was in."
