00:00Amid the sporadic incidents of violence that took place in Manipur, a five-member Supreme
00:06Court judges' delegation has reached the state of Manipur.
00:10The judges' delegation is being led by Justice B R Kavai.
00:16Members of the delegation are visiting the relief camps and they are assessing the ongoing
00:20humanitarian crisis in Manipur.
00:23In 2023, in May 2023, violence erupted in Manipur after there was a march that was being
00:30done by a certain section of the tribals.
00:34In this violence, over 200 people lost their lives and hundreds were injured.
00:38Thousands were displaced during the 2023 violence.
00:42Images that you are seeing on your screens coming in from Imphal.
00:46This is the delegation of Supreme Court judges who are on the ground assessing the situation
00:53and looking at the ongoing humanitarian aid that is being given.
00:59My colleague Nalini is now joining me on the story.
01:04Nalini, we can very clearly see that the judges' delegation led by Justice B R Kavai, all of
01:10them are on the ground.
01:12They are visiting the relief camps and the delegation is also assessing the ongoing humanitarian
01:17crisis.
01:18Here's what I swear, we're reporting right from Churachandpur right now in Manipur, which
01:25is the Kuki dominated area where the judges have just visited the relief camp.
01:30They have just left two minutes back from here to now move towards Vishnupur where they're
01:33also going to be visiting the relief camps.
01:36It's interesting to see how the things have panned out over the course of the past two
01:39days when all the arrangements have been made here at Churachandpur for the arrival of the
01:44judges.
01:45There is a large amount of security team of different forces that has been deployed here,
01:50including the CRPF, the BSF, the Assam Police, the Indian Army.
01:53They're all present here in Churachandpur to ensure that there are no safety concerns
01:57during the visit of the Supreme Court judges.
02:00The judges are also accompanied by the Manipur High Court Chief Justice and another lady
02:04judge.
02:05Justice N Kutiswar Singh of the Supreme Court was also supposed to be part of this delegation.
02:10We're considering the fact that he's a Mehti from Manipur and the area where the event
02:14is happening is dominated by the Kuki tribe.
02:17He was advised and there was even a statement issued by the Bar Association in Churachandpur
02:23asking him to not visit to ensure that there are no security concerns with a Mehti visiting
02:28a Kuki-dominated region.
02:30Just to get your update of what's happening in Manipur, even though the buffer zone between
02:34the Kuki region and the Mehti district has been opened, but there is no transport or
02:40movement of people from one region to the other.
02:42There are several checkposts between the two regions to ensure there is no untoward
02:46incident that's happening in the place.
02:48But at the same time, the judges, all the security measures have also been put in place
02:53for them.
02:54Once they visit the relief camps in Vishnupur, after that they will be retiring for the evening
02:59and tomorrow they'll be attending a function of the Manipur High Court.
03:02Even here in Churachandpur, we saw them meet the internally displaced persons, hand over
03:07several relief materials to them and even take stock of the situation of the relief
03:10camp.
03:11An important statement coming in, I swear, really quickly, is Justice B R Gawai has promised
03:15the internally displaced persons here at Manipur that peace will soon return to Manipur and
03:19that the judiciary, executive and legislature are working together to ensure that.
03:24Thank you, Rani, my colleague, who's on the ground and also saying that very soon we will
03:27see a statement also coming in.
03:29Peace will return.
03:30This is what the delegation of the judges who are on the ground have to say with regards
03:34to the violence that rocked Manipur.
