00:00Satay is popular during Ramadan and Hari Raya, but for one family, it represents a legacy

00:11treasured all year round.

00:14Get to know Satay Family.

00:16As its name suggests, it's a business operated by a large, close-knit family.

00:21My father started and operated Satay Family.

00:25His name is Abdul Samad bin Abu Wahab, also known as Sidiq.

00:29It started in the 1980s.

00:33We were still young at the time.

00:37There were 10 of us.

00:39We were involved from a young age.

00:42We had to handle everything.

00:44My brother was in charge of cutting, I was in charge of packing.

00:49My sister was in charge of the kitchen.

00:53We had a sweet memory.

00:56We worked with our family, we did everything with our family.

00:59We started with our family when we were young.

01:04We processed with our family.

01:05After processing, we sold it to our family.

01:08So, we have a connection with our family.

01:12It is the same today with all 10 siblings helping in the business.

01:17Nine of them work full-time.

01:20They operate two outlets in Klang and one in Mutiara Damansara,

01:24offering five varieties of satay –

01:26chicken, beef, mutton, rabbit and beef's intestines.

01:32But Satay Family had humble beginnings.

01:35It started with Sidiq operating a stall in Klang,

01:38serving only beef and chicken satay.

01:41In the early days, Sidiq would prepare the satay by hand

01:45with help from his wife and children.

01:47Today, the use of machinery has made the production process more efficient.

01:52First, we enter the raw cold room.

01:56From there, we take out the raw material and put it into Production 1.

01:59Production 1 is the process of cutting.

02:02So, the cutting and marinating are all done in one room.

02:05After the marinating, we go back to the cold room.

02:08The marinated satay is put into the cold room

02:10to be marinated for 24 or 48 hours.

02:13After that, it is brought to the milling machine.

02:17This is the process of milling the land.

02:20Their satay is juicy, flavourful and generously sized,

02:24perfect when enjoyed with peanut sauce and soft lontong.

02:29Although Sidiq passed away in 2023,

02:32his legacy continues to thrive through Satay Family.

02:37Alhamdulillah, this is one of my father's and my family's wishes.

02:42We hope that this will continue for the next generation of business.

02:48After the second generation,

02:50we hope that the third generation will continue this business.
