00:00My taste is often a surprise to me and that's like part of the delight of it,
00:04especially when you like something that no one else likes. I'm like, oh my god.
00:07But then also when you like things that other people like it can connect you.
00:13I'm Lucy Dacus and here are my recommendations.
00:21Trucco is a great game. Old Argentinian men play this smoking cigars outside cafes. It's
00:27kind of like poker and partners. You get three cards and then you have to signal across to the
00:32other person what you have and then the person that receives the signals tells both players
00:37what to play. I have like a particular group of friends I used to play this with. I'm not
00:42going to give away my poker approach. I'm there to have fun. I like being competitive,
00:47but I also just like, I don't mind losing if it was fun.
00:59Cara Delevingne specifically was in the poker scene and plays poker all the time.
01:04I also thought of her because she's one of the first lesbians I ever really like knew about
01:09in media. I remember friends cutting out like her face and putting it on their inspo walls
01:15and then like the bait and switch of like oh my god like she's gay. She's the voice of the
01:20house station in Grand Theft Auto. Is that true? It's about time you fell in love with something
01:26that will love you back and that my friends is house music. That's really cool. The creator is
01:30the voice of some of the people on the street. Hey you like potato salad? I'm learning so much
01:35right now. I always say survivor especially if people want a long journey. If you had the
01:43opportunity would you ever go on the show? Who I am when I have not eaten is not someone I want
01:49the world to see. Ultimately I would probably like try to figure out who I think deserved it
01:55the most and like help them. I do really like hacks. I can't wait for the next season. Like
01:59actually laughing out loud at things. I mean I've been watching the bear. I love the bear.
02:04Io. Forever. Cousin. There's something sad and deep in that guy's eyes.
02:09Merry Christmas lizards. I think like a lot of funny actors have the opportunity to have like
02:14so much depth because when you expect funniness from them and then they serious. I love that bait
02:19and switch. And then I watched Twin Peaks in high school and you know I've been thinking about David
02:25Lynch a lot. I haven't watched The Return yet. I felt scared. I stopped watching TV after I finished
02:33Twin Peaks for like 10 years. So I was like I can't let a TV show reach my heart like that again.
02:40I need to close off.
02:44What I really like is when multiple friends hit me up about the same record. Like within a week
02:50if like three people are like you have to check this out. That happened with the ML Book record.
02:54Bunch of people are like you would be into this and I am. I guess there were like some re-releases
02:58of Emma Hoy, Siga, Miriam Gibroux. Every time I see something of hers I get it. I really love
03:04Grouper but I make myself not listen to it in warm weather. It just feels like rain and coldness
03:12and turning inward. Forever is a feeling is my new record. Putting it together I wrote the songs
03:20mostly in 2022 and 2023. I was recording during Boy Genius year.
03:32Of course I was showing Phoebe and Julian these songs. I was like is this dumb? They're a big
03:37part of whatever happens in my life. Yeah I like how it turns out. It's amazing. My band and I
03:45used to camp because we didn't have any money and then they had kayaks. I got into it over
03:50COVID because it was the only place I could go where I felt I could take my mask off. I like
03:54being able to like sit still enough that like you stop making ripples. Even sometimes I've packed
04:00a bag with like a little lunch and like my little watercolor kit. Paint the birds.
04:08I mean I guess like overall shout out to all the free museums. Growing up in Richmond and being so
04:14close to D.C. I didn't know that museums cost money. Growing up I was like museums are free
04:19and that is how it should be. VMFA in Richmond, Museum Ludwig in Cologne, Germany is great. I'm
04:26a Musee d'Orsay person in Paris. There's one in Philly, the Barnes Foundation. I wrote one of the
04:32songs while I was there. I might have been there with Maggie Rogers actually but I've been there
04:37lots of times. I took Julian there on her birthday on the Boy Genius tour. The album art is an oil
04:42painting by Will St. John. I've been a fan of his for a long time and I just like have been
04:47following his work. I was thinking about forever being a feeling. You always think like oh my art
04:51will outlive me. It won't outlive everything. Like even art is not forever. And then I wanted this
04:56like tattoo, like this classic portrayal of me as like kind of like one of the fates. When you
05:02see like pre-Raphaelite depictions of truth or honor, supple women in robes, the tattoo being
05:10the title, tattoos also feel like they're forever. But we have a friend that says they're like the
05:16most temporary form of art because they pass when the body does. All the time things are changing
05:21and so things are growing and things are decaying and that's true of relationships. If you're afraid
05:27to change something like it's going to change anyways. There's no keeping it the way that it is.
