00:00Apple's most affordable iPhone is here, the iPhone 16e.
00:04But is it really affordable?
00:06Well, that depends.
00:08But I have been using this phone for a couple of weeks,
00:10and one thing is for sure,
00:12that the iPhone 16e makes for a great entry point
00:16into the Apple ecosystem.
00:18I have my reasons.
00:20Let's break it down.
00:24Let's start with the pricing.
00:26The iPhone 16e is priced starting at Rs. 59,900 in India,
00:30and if you include some of the bank offers,
00:32you can get it for about Rs. 55,000.
00:35If you have an old phone that you'd like to exchange,
00:38then you'd be able to snag it for around under Rs. 50,000.
00:43At that price, if you can actually get it for Rs. 50,000,
00:46I think the iPhone 16e is a great deal.
00:48Even at around Rs. 55,000,
00:49I think this iPhone 16e makes sense for a lot of people,
00:53and here is why.
00:55Now, if we look at the display and design of the iPhone 16e,
00:59the 16e has a 6.1-inch OLED display.
01:04The design here is actually quite reminiscent
01:07of the iPhone 7, if you remember,
01:10or if you are slightly younger,
01:12maybe the iPhone XR, the XR.
01:16The 7 used to have a matte black finish, if you remember,
01:19and this really reminds me of that.
01:22What is interesting on the 16e is that
01:25the traditional mute toggle button
01:28has been replaced with a more modern action button,
01:32so the action button lets you customize the camera functions,
01:36use a DND on it, and most importantly, visual intelligence,
01:41but I'm going to talk about that in a minute.
01:43A very important addition on the iPhone 16e
01:45is that it now uses a USB-C port,
01:49just like the latest iPhone 16 series.
01:52If we talk about power, the iPhone 16e
01:54uses the A18 chipset, which is the same
01:56that the iPhone 16 series, the newest, the latest one, uses.
02:01The only difference is that the 16e's chipset
02:04has one fewer core, but don't let that fool you
02:07because the A18 chip on the iPhone 16e
02:10still has six-core CPU, four-core GPU,
02:14and a 16-core neural engine,
02:16which, according to Apple,
02:18makes it 80% faster than A13 Bionic
02:22from the iPhone 11.
02:23All of that is just numbers.
02:24I have been using the phone for two weeks,
02:26and I can tell you that I have installed
02:29about, or maybe a little more than,
02:31a decade's worth of data on this phone.
02:34I've been multitasking on it throughout the day.
02:36I use multiple social media apps.
02:39I always have Apple Music running on the background.
02:42I've never felt a lag.
02:43And I'm somebody who has been using iPhone 16 Pro
02:46as my primary for a long time.
02:48Obviously, you see differences in speed,
02:50camera performance, and all that,
02:51but when overall performance is considered,
02:54I think the 16e does not show any prominent lags
02:58or anything in the performance.
03:00Since we talk about cameras,
03:01iPhone 16e has what Apple calls a two-in-one camera.
03:05So here is basically a 48-megapixel fusion sensor,
03:09which is the same that you get on 16,
03:11but this sensor is slightly smaller comparatively.
03:15The two-in-one part, so Apple basically says
03:19in addition to the primary 48-megapixel fusion camera
03:22that you get, there is also a 2x telephoto capability
03:25that they've added over here.
03:27Now, this is a digitally added thing.
03:29They claim it gives you optical quality image,
03:32but it's not an optical zoom.
03:35It's still a digitally done zoom,
03:37but it will give you optical quality image.
03:41All of that is good.
03:42I was using the camera.
03:44I actually thought that in great lighting,
03:47portrait mode does a pretty brilliant job.
03:49You can see some of our samples
03:51that the background separation is very good.
03:53The colors are pretty decent.
03:57The portrait bokeh effect is quite nice.
03:59However, where the iPhone 16e struggles is low light.
04:03You can see some noise in the images.
04:06That is a issue even when you use
04:08the front camera for selfies.
04:10You do notice that there is some loss of clarity in images,
04:15but I think if you are somebody
04:18who's not primarily using an iPhone
04:21or any smartphone for photography,
04:23like if you're just taking images for social media,
04:25I think this should do the job for you.
04:27Now, let's talk about the battery life.
04:29So, Apple says that the iPhone 16e
04:33has the biggest battery any 6.1-inch iPhone has ever had.
04:38Of course, Apple does not reveal numbers,
04:40so we don't know what the actual size of the battery is,
04:43but I have been using the phone
04:45and with the kind of usage that I mentioned
04:48with multiple apps, multitasking,
04:51pretty much a heavy usage that I have,
04:54I was easily able to get
04:56about a day's battery life on single charge.
04:59Now, let's talk about the most interesting part
05:01about the iPhone 16e,
05:03Apple Intelligence and Visual Intelligence.
05:06Now, here's the thing.
05:07This is their affordable phone.
05:09You do have to spend around 50,000-60,000 rupees
05:13to buy this phone.
05:15There are some corners that you'll see cut,
05:17like if there is wireless charging support on this,
05:20there is not MagSafe Accessity compatibility on it.
05:24So, you do see some corners being cut,
05:27but I think the Apple Intelligence
05:30and Visual Intelligence support on this device
05:32is a proper redeeming quality of the 16e.
05:36So, Apple Intelligence features
05:38are currently not available on the iPhone 16e,
05:40but I was in Bombay
05:41and I got to use these features
05:43and I think they are a lot of fun.
05:46So, with Apple Intelligence,
05:47you will be able to do a bunch of things.
05:49For instance, in the messaging app,
05:52you can now create your emoji or anything, actually.
05:54It's system-wide.
05:56So, anywhere in the app,
05:57if you go and type, for instance, elephant and chef,
06:01you can make your own emoji
06:04of an elephant wearing a chef's hat.
06:06Or if you go into Notes,
06:07you'll get complete chat GPT integrated into the app.
06:10So, if you want to write something, research something,
06:13you want to improve the writing
06:15that you've already taken notes of,
06:17all of that chat GPT can do for you.
06:19Then comes Visual Intelligence,
06:21which I think is a lot of fun.
06:22So, with Visual Intelligence,
06:24all you have to do is use the Action button.
06:27Long-pressing the Action button
06:29will trigger Visual Intelligence
06:31and then you can point it at anything,
06:33for instance, these flowers,
06:35and it'll tell you what it is in real time.
06:38You can ask it questions about it.
06:40It's really cool, I think.
06:42Now, let's talk about the big question.
06:44A lot of people have been talking and asking us
06:46about the comparison between the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16e.
06:50Now, that comparison isn't exactly unfair
06:54because with the iPhone 16e priced around Rs 55,000-60,000,
06:58the iPhone 15 with a bunch of offers,
07:01you can get it for around Rs 60,000 too,
07:03like around Rs 60,000-62,000.
07:06So, a lot of people say that,
07:07why should I not just put in slightly extra money
07:10and go for the iPhone 15?
07:12After all, with the iPhone 15,
07:13you'll get better cameras compared to the iPhone 16e.
07:17But here's the thing,
07:18this comparison isn't as simple as it seems.
07:21There's a lot going on for both the phones
07:24and the choice really depends on you.
07:27So, with the iPhone 16e, you get the A18 chipset.
07:31The iPhone 15, on the other hand,
07:32runs on an older chipset, which is the A16 Bionic.
07:35Then, if you compare,
07:37the iPhone 15 has a traditional mute toggle.
07:40Some people like the tactile feel of that toggle.
07:43But on the 16e, you get the more recent,
07:47more modern action button.
07:51Which one do you prefer?
07:52That depends on you.
07:54Now, the big comparison would be, of course,
07:55the camera, like I mentioned.
07:57iPhone 15 has two cameras.
07:59You'll get more versatility when you click a picture.
08:02iPhone 16e has one, a two-in-one camera,
08:05but a physical single sensor.
08:07iPhone 16e has better battery.
08:10iPhone 15, we don't know what is the battery size,
08:14but Apple claims that 16e has the biggest battery size
08:19in any 6.1-inch phone.
08:2116e and 15e have similar displays, similar refresh rates,
08:27but the 16e has the new Apple C1 modem.
08:32iPhone 15 has the Qualcomm X70 modem.
08:36Apple says that C1 is able to give you
08:38a better battery life as well.
08:40So again, there is so much going on
08:42for the 16e and the iPhone 15.
08:45But here is where I think the 16e
08:49has a slightly better weightage,
08:52that you get Apple Intelligence features.
08:55For some reason,
08:56iPhone 15 cannot run Apple Intelligence features.
09:00iPhone 16e, however, can.
09:03In April, you will be able to use Apple Intelligence
09:07and Visual Intelligence on iPhone 16e,
09:10which I think is a big plus point.
09:12But does it matter to you?
09:14You have to decide.
09:16Coming back to my original argument,
09:17I think the iPhone 16e still makes a lot of sense
09:20for people who want to enter the Apple ecosystem
09:24with the latest features and everything,
09:27because you can get a slightly better price
09:31on the 16e if you'd like.
09:34With the 15s, yes, it's a great iPhone.
09:37It can still be a great choice
09:39for somebody who's entering into the ecosystem,
09:42but you'd miss out on the buzz of AI,
09:45buzz of Apple Intelligence, if you're on the 15,
09:48because that will not support Apple Intelligence
09:51and Visual Intelligence features.
09:53So ultimately, it really all boils down to you.
09:56It really depends on what you want out of your phone.
09:59iPhone 16e gives you a pretty decent package
10:02of display, battery, design, camera.
10:07So it really depends on what you want out of your phone.
10:11So that's a review of the iPhone 16e.
