00:00Even if the defense team is far away from the former President Rodrigo Duterte,
00:06his lead counsel is still consulting with some Filipino lawyers.
00:11Duterte has talked to them twice and there are additional members of the defense.
00:17The latest on The Hague, The Netherlands, broadcast live with Maris Romani.
00:23Maris?
00:25Well, it is proven that Vice President Sara Duterte will only appear in her visit to the former President Rodrigo Duterte's father
00:34here in the Scriveningan Prison.
00:36And she will only say that today, later tonight, actually, at this time here in The Hague,
00:43another foreign lawyer will arrive whom she will talk to and interview to become part of the defense team.
00:53And he will be the co-counsel of Atty. Nicholas Kaufman.
01:00And the target of the defense team is to complete this within a week.
01:10The former President Rodrigo Duterte and his lead counsel, Nicholas Kaufman,
01:15have already started talking about how to win the case of Crimes Against Humanity for Murder
01:19which is in the International Criminal Court or ICC.
01:22According to Atty. Kaufman, Duterte has already worked with them
01:26in the second visit to the former President in the ICC detention cell here in The Netherlands.
01:32I'm going to instruct him on the nature of the case against him and he's going to tell me how to fight it and to win it.
01:37Kaufman does not yet want to say who will be part of the legal team.
01:41Earlier, Vice President Sara Duterte said that the foreign nationals will be included.
01:46I'm not commenting on the name of the counsel, okay, in any way whatsoever.
01:51And that doesn't mean that I'm approving or disapproving of any nomination or any name that you're mentioning.
01:58The announcement will be made in due course.
02:00Despite that, Kaufman said that he is still consulting Filipino lawyers.
02:05I'm already taking advice from Filipino lawyers. I have to in a case like this.
02:09There is an essential element of any case of the International Criminal Court that there is a need for foreign lawyers.
02:15So there will definitely be involvement of Filipino lawyers. I need them.
02:19Kaufman also said that he has already advised Duterte on the nature of the case of Crimes Against Humanity.
02:24Aside from this, Kaufman does not want to give other details on how they will defend Duterte in the confirmation of charges hearing on September 23.
02:32But one of the things they will discuss in the pre-trial chamber 1 is how Duterte was arrested this March and was flown here to The Hague.
02:40Everybody saw what happened to him when he returned to the Philippines, was put onto a plane and thrown over here.
02:49So you will be filing for interim release?
02:53I'm not going to divulge defense strategy.
02:55Indirect co-perpetrator is Duterte in the warrant of arrest issued by the ICC in the murder case of Crimes Against Humanity.
03:03Meanwhile, Mel, the additional information that Vice President Sara Duterte gave us is that her father was transferred to a regular detention facility.
03:19He is no longer in the hospital part of the facility.
03:24His blood sugar is under control.
03:26His blood sugar is being checked four times a day.
03:31Other vital signs are normal.
03:34President Duterte used to watch TV.
03:39But when he was asked if he watches international news that he likes to watch, he said he does not watch news because it is filtered.
03:52Aside from this, he offered books.
03:57But the former president said that he is having a hard time because his vision is blurry.
04:02He is also suffering from eye pain.
04:06So that is the latest.
04:07We will be back in The Hague, Netherlands.
04:09Back to you, Mel.
04:10Thank you very much, Marie Zumari.
04:22.
