SA farmers joined the opposition on the steps of Parliament House in Adelaide to petition the government for more drought support. It follows an emergency management council meeting held on Wednesday morning which focused on the dry conditions. The state government says it is exploring what other support it can provide farmers, and it stands ready to act.

00:07This is the first time in my lifetime I have never seen the crop make it to a head to reap any grain.
00:15South Australia has experienced record dry weather, with the lack of rain taking its toll on primary producers.

00:29it is ridiculously hard.
00:32An $18 million drought package is available for farmers, but they say it doesn't go far enough.
00:38And with drought conditions continuing, a State Emergency Management Committee meeting was called.
00:43We will actively contemplate any way that the State Government can show more support beyond the measures that we've already announced.
00:50We need a government that listens to our farmers, that supports our farmers,
00:54and what they need at the moment is they need water, and they need feed, and they need support, and they need it now.
00:59But it's little comfort for farmers.
01:01Farmers, especially in our region, are desperate for assistance and just from the government, acknowledgement that this drought is happening.
