00:00What's the biggest lesson you learned about yourself and being a mom these last five, almost six years?
00:04Oh my gosh, you know, often we think of us helping kids, right?
00:10You know, we are giving them the tools to thrive, or we hope that we are.
00:15But I don't say this lightly, my son truly saved my life.
00:19And what I mean by that is, he gave me great perspective.
00:24There are things that in my 20s and my 30s, oh gosh, I'd be spiraling, you know?
00:29But he's given me great perspective, not just about work, but about what really matters in life.
00:36And I know that sounds cliche, and I've been on both sides.
00:40I tell people all the time, you know, my womanhood and my motherhood are two separate things.
00:44I was a non-mom for 48 years.
00:47But with Moses and this journey with him, he really has enriched my life to the point where I feel guilty.
00:55I feel guilty that, wow, you've given me so much.
00:58I hope that I can give you just a little of that in return.
01:01It's been wonderful, and it's been fun.
01:03And he's actually a very funny guy.
01:05Oh my gosh, the other day, you know, he was practicing for this musical he's got.
01:09He's Orange Crayon No. 3.
01:10This is the second musical he's rehearsing for.
01:12He completed the one.
01:13Now he's got the big one where he's Orange Crayon No. 3.
01:15We were watching the Oscars, and he looked over, and this woman is singing his song, Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
01:23And he's like, wait, that's my song.
01:25And it's Ariana Grande.
01:26I said, yeah, her name is Ariana Grande.
01:28Mom has interviewed her before.
01:30And he's like, Ariana who?
01:32He's taken my song.
01:34She's got my song.
01:35And then Ariana started to do her thing.
01:37You know, she's like riffing it.
01:38And he's like, no, that's not how it goes.
01:41Oh my God, that's hysterical.
01:43So I have this video of him literally heckling her or trying to teach her how it's supposed to go.
01:48Listen, Ariana.
01:49Listen, you might have some awards and all that, ma'am.
01:52But you're going off this ranch a little too far.
01:56I love the confidence he has.
01:58That's fantastic.
01:59And it's great to see.
02:00And I'll tell you again, there are days, of course, it's up and down.
02:03When I said to him, we're going on a tour, book signing, and I would love for you to go with me.
02:09And he said, you know, I will help you set up the books.
02:14But I don't want to sign the books.
02:17I said, OK.
02:19With my studio, when we launched the Tamron Hall show in 2019, I had a nursery in my room, in my dressing room, because I was so excited.
02:28I didn't want one minute of my life to be spent without him.
02:31So he's grown up on set.
02:33But he will say to you, Mom, when the people leave, I'll go in.
02:39He loves looking at the lights.
02:40He loves the stage.
02:42But walking into a room of, you know, 200 adults who are strangers.
02:47It's overwhelming.
02:48And we have worked to give him the words and empower him to have that.
02:56I'm OK.
02:57I'm not ready.
02:58Everything is not for everybody.
02:59And it's a hard thing sometimes in this pressure cooker of a life that we can live.
03:03Sure.
03:04Yeah.
03:05You know, you said you had Moses at 48.
03:0648.
03:0748.
03:08That's amazing.
03:09What advice do you have for women that maybe want to start a family in their late 40s?
03:12You know, I've been having this conversation a lot.
03:14I have a lot of young women in their 30s who I mentor.
03:18And many of them are freezing their eggs now.
03:22They are trying to figure out this right time.
03:26And I don't present myself as some kind of guru on the topic.
03:32But I truly believe that the timing is up to you.
03:37I think that there's no perfect time.
03:40I think about what kind of mom I would have been at 27, 37.
03:44That wasn't my journey.
03:45That wasn't the journey that was meant for me.
03:47But I am inspired by the independence.
03:50I'm inspired by the fact that more companies than ever are actually covering the cost of IVF,
03:56covering the cost of freezing eggs and having these candid conversations.
03:59We had a show recently dedicated to the real conversation of fertility.
04:05And for the first time ever in my 30 years of my career,
04:08I had a young woman in her 30s sit and explain what it's really like to freeze your eggs.
04:12A lot of people think it's like going in and in and out.
04:15It's a whole round of IVF without the fertilization of the egg.
04:20It's not a walk in the park.
04:22And it's not scary if that's your choice.
04:25But we glaze past it.
04:27So for me, I don't know what having it all is.
04:30I don't seek balance.
04:31I don't think that's a real thing.
04:32I seek joy.
04:33And I think if your joy is the journey and the possibility of being a parent, find your joy.
