00:00A formal general manager, Ang Ching Gaik, was awarded nearly RM1.4 million in compensation
00:08for unfair dismissal after his employer, WV Services Malaysia Sindiran Berhad, failed
00:13to attend the trial or defend the claim in the industrial court.
00:18Court Chairman Augustine Anthony said that Ang was only entitled to 20 months back wages
00:23since he had not completed a full year of employment with the company.
00:28The court awarded Ang RM1,380,722.20, which included his back wages and a monthly allowance
00:36of RM200.
00:39The company, which failed to submit any defence or evidence, was absent from the hearing despite
00:43being informed of the trial date.
00:46The court then proceeded with the trial, allowed the claimant to present his case, and ruled
00:51in accordance with the Industrial Court Rules 1967.
00:56Ang claimed he was dismissed without explanation on June 18, 2022, after serving in various
01:02roles with the company since 2015.
01:05Ang's legal team stated that they would seek action for non-compliance if the employer
01:10does not settle the compensation within 30 days from March 3.
