00:00Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have opened up about the pressures of living in the spotlight,
00:05and their public revelations allegedly have Prince William worried.
00:08British News at Ten anchor Tom Bradby gained exclusive access to the Duke and Duchess of
00:14Sussex during their recent royal tour of southern Africa for ITV documentary
00:18Meghan and Harry, An African Journey. Reflecting on his mother's death and
00:22the fear that history may repeat itself, Prince Harry told Bradby,
00:27I will always protect my family, and now I have a family to protect."
00:31He added,
00:31"...every single time I see a camera, every single time I hear a click,
00:36every single time I see a flash, it takes me straight back. Everything that she,
00:41Diana, went through and what happened to her is incredibly important every single day,
00:46and that is not me being paranoid, that is just me not wanting a repeat of the past."
00:50The pressure of Harry's public life seems to have affected his mental health.
00:54He describes his coping mechanisms as a matter of, quote,
00:58"...constant management."
00:59I thought I was out of the woods, and then suddenly it all came back,
01:04and I suddenly realized, actually, no, this is something that I have to manage."
01:08Harry said he'd done his best to put on a brave face, but,
01:12"...for me and for my wife, of course there's a lot of stuff that hurts,
01:17especially when the majority of it is untrue."
01:19This comes just weeks after he issued a statement calling out the media for being, quote,
01:24"...malicious and false." He also announced he and his wife were taking a break from royal duties.
01:29According to the BBC, a Kensington Palace source has said that Prince William is worried about his
01:35brother and is said to be hoping that the couple are in a good place after sharing their struggles
01:39so publicly. The Palace source said there was a view that the couple was under pressure and
01:44suggested a, quote, "...mood of concern for the safety of the couple."
01:48Both Prince William and Prince Harry have always been very passionate about mental health,
01:52and have worked hard to challenge the stigma and open up the conversation in the UK and around
01:57the world. In May 2019, Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle joined
02:03forces to back mental health initiative Shout!, with £3 million from their royal foundation,
02:08according to the BBC. The UK's first 24-7 free text service is for anyone in crisis.
02:15The website states,
02:17"...it's a place to go if you're struggling to cope and you need immediate help."
02:21However, the BBC explained that the couples later announced their charitable foundation
02:26would split, but they vowed to continue working together on issues like mental health.
02:30Despite Prince Harry bravely acknowledging his struggles and setting an example for mental
02:34health sufferers by opening up so publicly, the BBC reported a source said that Prince
02:39William was furious with his brother after the documentary aired last Sunday.
02:44Over the past few months, the tabloids have speculated that there is currently a rift
02:48between the brothers, and Prince Harry did not shy away from the camera when asked about
02:52it during filming. In the ITV special, Harry admitted that, like any brothers,
02:57he and William have good days and bad days. Acknowledging reports of tensions between
03:01the brothers, Harry, the Duke of Sussex, said,
03:04"...part of this role and part of this job and this family being under the pressure that it's under,
03:09inevitably, you know, stuff happens."
03:13He went on to say that they still have a bond, though,
03:16"...we're brothers, we'll always be brothers. We're certainly on different paths at the moment,
03:20but I will always be there for him, and as I know, he'll always be there for me."
03:23In reference to their different paths, the BBC notes,
03:26"...one of the ways the brothers have diverged is in their attitude to the media."
03:30William allegedly understands the role of the media, while Harry does not agree with
03:34the way the tabloids report on the royal family, and more specifically, how they report on his wife.
03:40BBC Royal correspondent Johnny Diamond said outright,
03:44"...the relationship between William and Harry is irreparably changed."
03:48According to sources close to the palace,
03:50the worry for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wellness doesn't end with Prince William.
03:54With many other members of the royal family concerned,
03:57Diamond concluded,
03:58"...the echoes of the unhappy Diana Charles years are loud and getting louder."
