00:00Welcome to Mediain TV, and welcome to Paris, where the Pompidou Museum of Modern Art,
00:15which has the largest collection in the world, with that of the MoMA in New York,
00:19will close its doors for five years of renovation work.
00:23The few 2,000 permanent works of art on 12,000 square meters
00:27will be moved to other museums in Paris, elsewhere in France or abroad.
00:34However, the general public will be able to continue to admire part of the collection,
00:38which includes a total of some 150,000 works,
00:41including the Grand Palais, which has been renovated in Paris,
00:44where several major exhibitions are already scheduled.
00:47It will also continue to be visible abroad,
00:50thanks to partnerships between the Centre Pompidou and Malaga in Spain,
00:54Shanghai or soon Brussels, and in large museums in the United States,
00:59Australia, Japan and Europe.
01:02I invite you to listen to David Cascaro,
01:06he is the Director of Publics at the Centre Pompidou.
01:10We are listening.
01:11We remain open until the fall, until September 22.
01:16Simply, a site of this size needed to be moved by phase,
01:20and so we closed the Public Library of Information ten days ago.
01:23And now it's around the museum, two impressive floors,
01:26nearly 2,000 works, which will no longer be accessible to the public.
01:31The Centre Pompidou, inaugurated in 1977, will close entirely on September 22,
01:37with its last temporary exhibition,
01:39for colossal works of disassembly and renovation scheduled until 2030.
01:46An unprecedented and pioneering place for modern and contemporary art in the world,
01:50also called Beaubourg.
01:52It was wanted by the former President of the Republic, Georges Pompidou,
01:56as a living space for meetings of all artistic disciplines,
02:00welcoming all audiences.
02:02With an average of 4 million annual visitors,
02:05the vast tubular, multicoloured building, designed by the architects Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers,
02:12has become one of the most frequent monuments in Paris.
02:15Works should begin in April 2026.
02:19And beyond these necessary renovations,
02:21estimated at €262 million and funded by the Ministry of Culture,
02:26the site will also have a cultural aspect.
02:29For €186 million in addition,
02:32several spaces in Beaubourg will be completely rethought.
02:36We listen to David Casparo, Director of the Public at the Centre Pompidou.
02:42Obviously, there are great projects around Chagall, around Matisse,
02:46which circulate internationally.
02:48The photography collection as well.
02:50We have great partnerships with Malaga in Spain,
02:54with Shanghai in China, with Korea.
02:57We are also opening a new partnership during these years.
03:00So it's a real flowerbed, let's say, of the works' dispersion.
03:07Because it's basically about keeping the building as it is.
03:10It's an icon of the 20th century architecture.
03:12So we don't touch on the masterpieces of Richard Rogers and Renzo Piano.
03:17We will simply revisit a certain number of circulations.
03:21We will deploy the spaces in a different way
03:24to make them more accessible to families, to people away from art.
03:28And to free up all the space that is under the piazza.
03:33An old bus parking lot will be converted into an exhibition room,
03:37which will allow us to develop other tools,
03:40such as an immersive exhibition.
03:43The re-opening of the Pompidou Centre is scheduled for 2030.
03:46Visitors will be able to discover several novelties.
03:49In the northern part of the building, a kind of ludothèque media library
03:52will be opened for the younger generation.
03:55And on the south side of the rue Saint-Méry,
03:57a shopping centre will be regrouped,
03:59a bookshop, a boutique, a new restaurant space,
04:02as well as an outdoor terrace.
04:04At the end of this huge site,
04:06visitors will also have access to the panoramic roof terrace of the building,
04:11which will offer a breathtaking view of the capital.
04:15Let's listen to these statements.
04:17I admit that it's a bit surprising,
04:19in the sense that today, for example, I am 22 years old,
04:22and I tell myself that in five years I will be 27 years old
04:24and I will no longer necessarily have the same vision of things.
04:26So it's interesting to have a point of view on the museum today
04:30and maybe in five years to have a new vision and see it differently.
04:34Yes, it was important to share this moment with the visitors
04:37and for these last moments with the visitors to be historical.
04:41They feel it, since it is the closing of the museum,
04:45but it is really something special that is happening
04:48and something that is of the order of a shared emotion
04:52and which also allows us to overcome what would be nostalgia,
04:57but which is also a joyful moment.
05:01And music to finish.
05:03And for that, we go to Syria to discover the Marachli Ensemble,
05:08created in 2014 by the meeting of several group leaders
05:12from different artistic backgrounds.
05:14They merged into one group,
05:16with the selection of the best choral elements of the previous groups
05:19in order to achieve excellence.
05:23Their concerts are dominated by the rebirth of authentic heritage,
05:27of the religious song, in order to preserve it
05:30and present it in a different and contemporary form.
05:34Let's listen to this excerpt.
