00:00On International Women's Day, Meghan Markle took a break from promoting her new Netflix
00:04show to share some sweet family snapshots on Instagram. And one rare new photo of her
00:09daughter Lilibet has the parenting police up in arms. Here she is with Papa Prince Harry,
00:14sitting on his lap, her face obscured, but her red hair matching Dad's. They're on a
00:18boat, but it's unclear if they're docked or out on the water. Notice anything missing?
00:23Harry and Meghan's harshest critics sure do. They're calling the prince out for not putting
00:26his three-year-old daughter in a life jacket, as that's the law for kids under the age of
00:3013 in California, where it's assumed this photo was taken.
00:34Meghan doesn't allow comments on Instagram, so the shaming took place on X, and it was
00:38extra brutal this time. They suck at being parents, makes me cringe, and how irresponsible
00:44were just a few of the critical comments we can repeat here. One user posted,
00:48"'Even pet owners put life vests on their pets when riding in boats? It's not caddy,
00:52it's cruel."
00:53But some online were more sympathetic to the Duke and Duchess, pointing out that the boat
00:58could have been docked, or even sitting on the beach. And as GB News points out, in Britain,
01:03children aren't even required by law to wear life jackets while boating. So to Harry, it's
01:07normal.
01:08Meghan's other photos were far less controversial. Here she is as a kid with her mama Doria,
01:13and here's a recent pic of the pair. And here, Meghan is with Harry, her toes covered in
01:17sand as they walk on the beach.
01:19All the hate over the pic of Harry and Lilibet didn't appear to get Meghan down, as she posted,
01:23"'Happy weekend, friends!' the next day, alongside a video of her cutting flowers and placing
01:28them in an empty jam jar.
01:30Meghan's Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, was recently picked up for Season 2, despite
01:34the crafting and cooking show getting dismantled and roasted by viewers and critics.
01:38"'She's so beautiful on the inside, and you just don't know how good she is until you
01:43go deep and you get to know her better.'"
01:46The second go-around was reportedly shot at the same time as Season 1.
01:50Meg's been riding high on a wave of headlines spun up by the series, including the news
01:54that she's now going by the name Megan Sussex.
01:56"'I don't think anyone in the world knows that Meghan Markle has eaten Jack in the Box
02:01and loves it.'"
02:02"'It's so funny, too, that you keep saying Meghan Markle, you know I'm Sussex now.'"
02:05And then there are the scathing reviews. The show's at just 33 percent on Rotten Tomatoes,
02:10as of the making of this video, with critics calling it,
02:13But they say there's no such thing as bad publicity, and Netflix clearly agrees, choosing
02:21to push ahead with a second season, and thus a second round of coverage, breathlessly dissecting
02:26every episode.
02:28Season 1 highlights include Meghan making a one-pot pasta dish that's suspiciously similar
02:32to a Martha Stewart favorite. And the Duchess puts edible flowers on cookies, eggs, and
02:37even inside ice cubes, in an infomercial-like push to sell her branded flower sprinkles,
02:42which are still not available for purchase, as of this video.
02:45"'Do they add flavor or is it decorative?'
02:47"'It's just an accessory.'"
02:48In another much-mocked moment, Meghan simply puts Trader Joe's peanut butter pretzels in
02:53a different bag, then uses her calligraphy skills to label them. Prince Harry pops up
02:57at the end of the series, congratulating his wife on a job well done. And here's her mom,
03:01Doria.
03:02Meghan's kids, Archie and Lilibet, aren't in the series, as Meghan is choosing to largely
03:06limit their exposure to just social media snaps, like this latest one of Lilibet and
03:11Harry on the boat. But Lilibet is also kind of the face of Meghan's brand, as ever, even
03:16though we don't see her face. Here she is on the As Ever website, walking hand-in-hand
03:20with her mom.
03:21Commemorating International Women's Day is a tradition for the Duchess. Last year, she
03:25joined a South by Southwest panel about women taking on leadership roles. When asked about
03:30how she deals with the endless toxicity of social media, Meghan shared her strategy.
03:34I keep my distance from it right now just for my own well-being.
