00:00NASA started buying tortillas from Taco Bell after a Mexican astronaut asked for a tortilla in his food supply.
00:05And the agency realized how practical they were as they left no crumbs and were easier to handle in space.
00:10But NASA still had a problem because the tortillas they produced didn't have a long enough shelf life and started getting bitter over time.
00:16Until NASA's food scientists discovered that Taco Bell already developed tortillas which could stay good for up to nine months in the 90s
00:22and they are commercially available.
00:24And after testing them, found out they could actually last up to a year without degrading.
00:27So the agency decided to stop producing their own tortillas and began buying Taco Bell's tortillas instead which became a staple food in space.
