00:00Strade Bianche is a favourite among riders and fans alike, a classic lovers classic in modern times but on ancient roads with the heroes of the peloton.
00:10Grand Tour stars fighting it against classics riders, over 213km nowadays, another tweak to the course this year, an extra gravel sector, there are now 16 of the Strade Bianche, the white roads, totalling 82km off-road.
00:27Starting and finish in the Tuscan jewel of a city that is Siena.
00:31It's got the elevation of a mountain stage in a Grand Tour as well, this race often has everything.
00:40The breakaway, 10 riders strong, soon became 6 and after 6 minutes, movement in the peloton behind, soon made it less than a minute.
00:5080km to go, exactly where Pogacar had attacked the year before.
00:54Today Pogacar aiming to be the first man since Fabian Cancellara to win this on 3 occasions and thus get a sector named after him.
01:03From the breakaway you could see there was movement, Connor Swift anticipating this would soon happen, not just Pogacar though, Tom Pidcock as well attacking the race.
01:15The rainbow bands shining brightly, but former winner Pidcock was with Pogacar all the way.
01:21Past the rest of the break they went, and at this point Connor Swift, the former British champion, was still just about ahead.
01:28Pogacar though, unable to ride away this time all alone.
01:32It was the technical section at the end of Monte Sante Maria where Connor Swift was back, and behind the chasing group was being anchored by Tim Wellens, a former podium finisher, but crucially today Pogacar's teammate.
01:46Talking of Pogacar, this then happened.
01:49A crash, a disaster it seemed.
01:54Pidcock getting away with it, Swift caught up behind, and the World Championship skin suit battered, ripped, the champion himself bruised, but not out.
02:06The adrenaline was pumping, he was back on his bike, it was time to chase on for dear life.
02:15A reminder that luck plays a crucial role in sport.
02:19And that those ladders can soon turn to snakes.
02:23A bike change, 49 kilometers to go, a deficit to close.
02:29Could Pogacar come back?
02:31First, he would have to get to Swift, and at the other side of Colle Pinsuto, you could see that Pidcock was continuing to ride on.
02:41Swift was caught and passed, he'd be the real victim of the crash in the end.
02:45As Pogacar was looking like his old self on the bike.
02:49The gap was closing, but then it closed rather quickly.
02:56Tom Pidcock looking around, easing off, and waiting, rather gentlemanly so, for today Pogacar.
03:02Sporting conduct at its very best.
03:05And soon at the front of the race, there will be a gap of over half a minute with Pogacar,
03:12There will be a gap of over half a minute with Pogacar and Pidcock.
03:16Winners of the last three of these races between them, fighting it out for the victory.
03:24The battle for the placings would rumble on behind.
03:28Pogacar and Pidcock thinking they had what it took to win.
03:35Healy would catch Swift, and he'd be dragging several other riders with him.
03:40The top two were together, until that is, they were on the final couple of sectors.
03:45Pogacar had left us all wondering how he would be.
03:49The answer was on the hills and on the gravel roads.
03:52The steep slopes, where yet again he showed his power to ride away from Tom Pidcock.
04:02Wellens heard that was happening, and he could seize his own opportunity to attack Bilbao, Healy and Adriaan.
04:08To try and join Pogacar on the podium.
04:12After a real heroic ride, it would be a hero's welcome.
04:18On his way to a third victory, but this sight will never get old for the world champ.
04:24He became the first male world champion to win in the rainbow stripes here.
04:30And today Pogacar arrives in Siena, showing that he wins when he wants.
04:38And at this race, particularly today, he wins how he wants.
04:45For the third time, Strade Bianche, yet again, belongs to the great Tadej Pogacar.
04:53An incredible ride.
04:55Congratulated by a team who he often leaves incredulous.
05:02They better believe it, because he did it again.
05:08Pidcock getting his own welcome in the great square in Siena, what a race from him.
05:13A huge step forward of a result for Q36.5, and an embrace between two great champions.
05:21And what about Tim Wellens?
05:23Not his first time on the podium here, but this time standing alongside the man who he helped to set up to win.
05:30UAE Team Emirates, taking 15th win of the season.
05:35And a 1-3 on the podium.
05:40Once again, though, it's all about Pogacar.
05:43He won his first stage race, he's now won his first one-day race of 2025.
05:52Pogacar, Pidcock, Wellens with Healy, Bilbao, the best of the rest.
05:56Kort, Vermeers, Valgren, van Eertveldt and Adria, all rounding out the top ten, but separated by five minutes.
06:04It's a special place to have a podium.
06:07Back from the medieval games, now to the modern age.
06:11And three absolute heroes.
06:13Strade Bianche, once again, didn't disappoint.
