Dozens of men were hit with sticks on Saturday (March 8) as the northern Indian town of Barsana began its Holi celebrations.
The unique tradition recreates the legend of the Hindu god, Krishna, who is believed to have visited Barsana to shower goddess Radha in bright colours.
Radha responded by playfully beating Krishna and his friends with sticks, causing them to flee the town.
