00:26on Sunday, a day earlier than scheduled.
00:30Greenlanders are set to vote in a general election on Tuesday that could determine the

00:42More than 1,000 people were killed as violent clashes erupted between Syrian security forces
00:47and loyalists of ousted longtime President Bashar al-Assad.
00:51The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based war monitor, added that the clashes
00:56marked one of the deadliest acts of violence in over a decade.
01:00Clashes erupted between Assad supporters and forces of the new interim Syrian government
01:04on Thursday in the country's western coastal regions.
01:08Assad enjoyed the support of Alawites for decades, who are predominantly based in the
01:12coastal areas in cities like Latakia.
01:15On Friday, Sunni Muslim gunmen launched retaliatory revenge killings against members of Assad's
01:21minority Alawite sect.
01:23Hundreds were killed as gunmen reportedly opened indiscriminate fire at homes in Alawite
01:27regions, looted and set them ablaze.
01:30The incident marks a major blow to the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group, who toppled Assad in
01:35early December in a surprise rebellion.
01:38The international community has called on all parties to exercise restraint and respect
01:43the rights of all Syrians, regardless of personal and religious beliefs.
01:50European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said there was no reason to de-risk
01:55Europe's decades-old relationship with the U.S. in the face of current geopolitical differences.
02:01Von der Leyen was speaking in a briefing to mark 100 days of her second term as EU Commission
02:06President.
02:07She insisted that the U.S. remained an ally.
02:10In the face of adversity, the U.S. and Europe have always been stronger together.
02:16And yes, there are differences, but we might have different views on some topics.
02:22But if you look at the common interests that we have, they always outweigh our differences.
02:28So I think it's important that we work together.
02:31We will have our differences.
02:32We have to sort them out, but we will have to find common avenues.
02:37Von der Leyen said her commission will start to hold regular security meetings to review
02:42the various potential threats facing the bloc in areas like defence and energy.
02:53All in and outbound traffic at Germany's Hamburg airport came to a halt in a surprise strike
02:58on Sunday.
02:59It came a day before trade union Verdi called for nationwide strikes at major German airports.
03:06Out of the 144 arrivals and 139 departures originally planned at Hamburg airport, only
03:1210 flights weren't cancelled in the morning.
03:15I wonder why.
03:17Because it was supposed to be a big strike tomorrow, and why is it today?
03:23A strike must be effective, and that's why we called for it in the short term.
03:27Of course, this is a burden for the passengers.
03:29The colleagues know that too.
03:31But they still followed the call for the strike 100 percent.
03:35The German Union had called on employees in the aviation security sector to strike for
03:40a full day on Monday.
03:41In a statement, Verdi said the warning strikes are necessary to improve working conditions
03:46and achieve better wages.
03:51Greenland is preparing to hold general elections on Tuesday, March 11, amid renewed geopolitical
03:57tensions over the Arctic island.
04:00The election campaign is expected to revolve around the island's independence aspirations
04:05and relations with Denmark and the U.S., and the polls are projected to reshuffle the country's
04:10parliament.
04:11U.S. President Donald Trump's interest in purchasing the island has spurred Denmark
04:16to accelerate efforts to mend the fractured ties.
04:19Greenland is the world's biggest island with around 60,000 people.
04:24The island, a former colony of Denmark, became a formal territory of the Nordic Kingdom in
04:301953 and is subject to the Danish constitution.
04:33If the island became independent, it could choose to become associated with the U.S.
04:38without becoming U.S. territory.
04:40When Trump offered to buy Greenland in 2019, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen rejected
04:47the idea and called it absurd.
