Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture. With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

00:00Good morning Anna, good morning. It's gonna warm up a little bit. Yeah it's
00:04below zero now at this moment but we're supposed to get a fair amount warmer
00:08like 10 degrees every day for the next four days. It's supposed to be in the 40s
00:12here before long.
00:20Got a little bit of a big day. Had an early start to the morning, headed to the
00:25gym, came back from there, then Onyx and I headed to the welding shop, put together
00:29some plans there. They're gonna cut up some metal for Onyx to build a duck
00:33blind and right now I'm gonna load up an engine into the back of my truck. It's a
00:39race car engine that needs some work after racing down in Arizona. I'm gonna
00:42send that, bring that over to the shippers and have that sent down to the
00:46builder in Tennessee.
00:49There's ditch. Don't need these extensions on here anymore.
00:59Don't forget to head over to Between the Rows which is linked below and watch
01:13Onyx and I race this summer. Just saying. Looks like master pipe layer Randy
01:18forgot one of his little gifts that a viewer brought him. It's a new depth gauge
01:23for his tile plow if you follow Randy. This is what he uses. See, so you know
01:28how deep you're going.
01:33That engine, as of now, it's just got a little bit of an oiling issue. It's not
01:38getting enough oil up into the heads and it's it's beating up on the rocker arms
01:42pretty bad. We got roller rockers in there and they're being starved of oil.
01:45So a little bit of an issue which any little bit of an oiling issue in an
01:50engine like that becomes a pretty big issue in a hurry. So before it became a
01:54catastrophic issue we figured we better get it to the builder and have them look
01:58at it. Get her! Oh geez, that's some aggressive getting.
02:07Take care of my baby. That's a relatively expensive and important paperweight in
02:13my life that I'm really hoping ends up in the right place halfway across
02:17country. I cannot begin to explain to you guys how much I hate driving in
02:24traffic. Really through any any cities in general. Mostly even just off of gravel
02:30roads. Alright, podcast time with the Farm for Profit boys who I just saw last week.
02:37But as it worked out Randy and I were coming through the same area on the same
02:41day which was a little bit coordinated. I had to be down here on this day. He had
02:45to run down here for some stuff anyway. So here you forgot these in my shop. Oh I
02:48did, yes. I mean that, the depth gauge. Yes, my package. This is quite the room Tanner.
02:58It is. This is pretty awesome. This is this is more legit than our our table in
03:04the basement. What is that? That's Cory's. Well so then as I'm walking into the
03:12emergency room like it passed. Like I passed it and I felt a hundred percent.
03:15And I'm like I'm fine let's go home. I interviewed you as a commentator a couple
03:21weeks ago at the Naked conference. I forgot about that. And so that's this is where I found out. I told
03:27these guys we went to dinner and I'm like dude I feel so bloated. I like not
03:31eat anything. I can't drink. I'm like I'm going to bed. Morning dogs. No I'm not
03:36jumping in the ranger this morning. Sorry. Boy they are wound up. Well the
03:42podcast with Farm for Profit went well. Go follow those guys if you're not.
03:47Especially over on TikTok. If you were following them on TikTok there's a good
03:51chance you're not anymore. Because Randy and I got their TikTok
03:56shut down that night. But don't worry about it. It's no big deal. Just go
03:59check them out. We have lost 85% of our snow in the last two days. It's been a
04:06muddy mess. Luckily we're frozen this morning. But with this Sun and what we're
04:11forecasted for today it's gonna get sloppy out in a real hurry. It's late
04:16February now and that Sun's got real power. It's not even above freezing and
04:20the roofs are aggressively dripping. So I've got two loads of corn that I need
04:24to bring in just for some feed bank for a landlord to use as some cattle feed.
04:29And I may have to grab the Mendico Storm from back here if I can. But first I
04:36wanted to walk back and see if this is a disgusting mud pit or if we're still
04:40frozen enough to get it out of here. At the moment we're froze. But I'm guessing
04:47in about a half an hour that's gonna be different.
04:54Luckily it's been warm enough I'm hoping this thing will start. But typically
05:00nothing, including myself, really wants to get up and go after sitting for two
05:04three weeks when it's 20 degrees below zero. Come on. Oh my gosh it did it. Thank
05:14you. All right I threw a little additive in the diesel in this thing.
06:04Please don't fall on my feet. Feet are fine.
06:24Let's try this. Oh that's the way to do it.
06:39I got this about down to a science. This isn't so bad. Putting the new ones on is
06:44gonna be a little more work.
06:53As long as I don't drop one of those on my feet I'll be all right here.
07:09Well that went considerably faster than I thought it was going to and I didn't
07:14even need the skids here.
07:17Seems like a good time for a hydration break.
07:22This one. Element's got everything you need to keep yourself truly hydrated
07:30properly. It's got a thousand milligrams of sodium, 200 grams of potassium, 60
07:34grams of magnesium, no sugar, no artificial crap, none of the caffeine in
07:38it. You can get them in the carbonated cans like I've got here which I really
07:42like these. Or you can get the powder packets that you just mix in into a
07:46like your water bottle or a glass of water. Element will recharge
07:52your electrolytes, give your body everything you really need to
07:56actually be hydrated correctly. So whether you're you know working outside
07:59where it's really hot, you're working on irrigators, you're working with livestock,
08:02you're just mowing the lawn, maybe it's this time of year you need to
08:06stay hydrated when it's cold out too. If you're working outside when it's cold
08:08out, even if you're not sweating, your body is being dried out all the time.
08:13This stuff helps me keep the energy up. It keeps the brain fog away. It keeps
08:16my leg cramps away. That's the biggest thing. My leg cramps are pretty much gone
08:19at night. I used to wake up and cry to the heavens because my legs would lock
08:24up so badly. To try it out for yourself all you got to do is go to
08:27www.drinkelement.com slash farmer. We will link that down below also. Try it out for
08:32yourself and you can get your own eight free sample pack to figure out what your
08:36favorite flavor is. All right now I know that this truck I want to load which has
08:40a battery charger on it because it sat for a couple of weeks and doesn't want
08:43to start. I know that tire over there is probably low but I'm gonna thump them
08:48all.
08:54Yep that one's low.
09:06Not flat though so that's good. She was down around 30-35 pounds and we run them
09:12at about a hundred hundred and ten. Now will it fire up for me?
09:25She wants to. Needs a little more yeah. I don't know what the hesitation is when
09:31you first turn the key where it turns like a half a turn and then it stalls
09:34for a second. Both of them do that a fair amount of the time even when they have
09:38good juice. I'll let it go for a bit see where Onyx is at with his homeschool
09:43stuff for the day maybe we'll go grab his steel. Well it's wet on top but it's
09:47not it's not as sloppy out here yet as I thought it would be by now. So Mendeco
09:52didn't show up till later last night which is fine but we're gonna have to
09:56unload everything this morning now but we don't need the Ranger for that girls.
09:59Well this would be the warmest morning we've had since probably November. We
10:03hardly froze overnight. So here is the new unit new Mendeco Storm. I didn't look
10:09I'm assuming it's the same 33 feet. We got to put the baskets on it. I don't
10:14know if we'll do that today or not. Still got the other one sitting here with the
10:17baskets off and I don't recall the process for getting the things on and
10:21off the trailer. It's been a couple years at least since I did that. All right let's
10:25see if our truck will fire this morning.
10:34She didn't like sitting that long but she's running. This truck also still has
10:40a fuel pressure issue. Loses fuel pressure when it sits. Sometimes it'll
10:45lose fuel pressure if it sits for five minutes. Other times it won't if it sits
10:49for three days. It's just we never know. We spent a lot of money trying to fix it
10:53so far and nobody's found it. Open sesame.
11:04I'll at least get this truck over by the underneath the grain leg while the yard
11:08is still half frozen anyway. We're definitely not frozen but it's going to
11:14get a lot worse as the day goes.
11:18The next month like the entire month of March around here is just always so
11:22sloppy so muddy. Drives me nuts.
11:34About halfway there. Yeah go all the way here. You can go all the way. Tilt the back
11:41a little. Pull out slowly. That's what she said. Where are you going? You got to help.
11:48Put them right there next to the deer stand for now. We won't be using either
11:53for a little while.
11:57Seems like I get a little closer every day to just being the cameraman. Pretty
12:01soon I won't actually have to do anything around this farm. I can just be
12:04like the production crew. I guess technically I'm just an actor anyway. I
12:08still can't believe they flew me back from Beverly Hills to come here to do
12:11this today.
12:31Say Onyx. Yep. Go up just a tiny bit. A little more. Yep. Might need to go down that much.
12:54Let's hope the 8295 fires up this morning. It was only about 32, 32, 30
13:01degrees or so and it fired yesterday at this temp. Oh of course. It sits for a
13:09month and fires right up. Are you kidding me? A month and 20 below and it fires
13:16right up on the first 30 degree day. Sits overnight after running for a good hour
13:20and doesn't fire. Well we're gonna find out if the Noco can fire this thing. I
13:25had that fully charged so let's hope. This is crazy. It just doesn't make any
13:30sense to me. They need one foot longer wires on those Nocos. There we go.
13:40Guess I better not shut this tractor down until I'm done with it for the day.
13:44All right old ones unhooked.
14:30Well I think the easy one is done. I'm going to swing this thing around and back it between the sheds here and park it out of the yard so it's not in our way. Because as sloppy as it is, schloppy, we aren't going to be really, we don't need this thing for a month.
15:01And back to the old one again. I'm thinking the second one will be a lot
15:08easier doing it this way. Yep much easier. Let's load this truck now. I've got to
15:15remember how to do this. There's one thing moving. As far as I can remember we
15:20wouldn't have had a reason to go anywhere other than out the driveway spout.
15:23Load out. Okay, that's good. This one? Yep, this one.
15:32Well the dogs are enjoying laying in the sun on the concrete. What a sloppy mess
15:57we've got around here. I'm gonna take it nice and easy up till I get to the
16:02highway so I don't destroy this road. Luckily I've only got the two loads to
16:06go so by the time, by the time we got a haul a bunch more here in a month we
16:11should be pretty dried out. Got one truck behind me already, one dumping and one
16:15pulling out in front of me. A little bit busier here today than I thought it
16:18would be. Overall the weather is awesome it's just that all the gravel roads
16:22are just a slime pit.
16:27Goodbye original storm.
16:40Well, we made a mess out of the yard, but got a few things done.
17:01Now I'm finally going to actually take Onyx to town, grab his steel so he can build his
17:05duck blind.
17:06And I'm going to be done with the camera for the day, so I want to remind you guys that
17:08we still have our merchandise deal going on, where right now you go over to my website,
17:14which is linked below, or go to farmfocused.com.
17:18That's the only place you can get our official stuff, because if you just go to Google and
17:22type in Millennial Farmer Merch, it's going to bring you a bunch of Chinese knockoff stuff.
17:25So you got to go to my website or Farm Focused, it's going to bring you to the same place.
17:30Any order that hits $40 or more, it's just going to automatically add a calendar to your
17:36cart.
17:37So that's going on right now until we run out of calendars, this hoodie and t-shirt
17:41included.
17:42So head over there.
17:43In the meantime, thanks for watching.
