00:00All right! Now guys, I started at the National Institutes of Health three years ago.
00:08Science improves our lives. I'm gonna let it shine. Science improves our lives.
00:18The single revolution.
00:27As the founder and host of Redefine, a podcast dedicated to unpacking life with a disability.
00:39Creationists, anti-vaxxers, climate science deniers, we have taken them on.
00:43And while these fights continue, we've made a lot of progress.
00:46And, excuse me, we've made a lot of progress, but only when we take action.
00:51Action in the courts, action in the streets, actions online.
00:55When there's no one to keep our food, air, and water quality safe and clean, real people will get sick.
01:19When there's no one watching and alerting us to hurricanes, wildfires, and other extreme weather and climate impacts, people will die.
01:29We don't move in fear.
01:48They scan for examples. They can distort and ridicule.
01:54They ask no one what their work actually is.
01:59They ignore obvious information about it.
02:04They'll call hormone and transgenic research in mice making transgender mice.
02:18We're really opposed to the defunding of our science institutions.
02:45We both work as physicians.
02:47And when we don't have really good science, our patients suffer.
02:50We also feel like our daughters suffer.
02:52We need science for them to grow healthy and strong.
03:08There's so much amazing research out there that's trying to increase access to much life-saving care.
03:13And I'm really, really concerned that the funding cuts, the chilling effect that it's having on researchers and physicians is really going to rip our access away.
03:21And it's going to have tremendously negative consequences for our community.
03:35I think most Americans agree science is super important.
03:37Clinical trials.
03:38I do research on the brain.
03:40Alzheimer's research.
03:42All these things are going to stop if funding isn't continued in science.
03:45The U.S. leads the world.
03:47Why stop that?
03:49Biology.
03:50Psychology.
03:51Physics.
03:52Sociology.
03:53All of us are here to stand together.
03:55So give yourselves a round of applause.
04:09I think people like Elon Musk don't understand that all the basic medicines that they are benefiting from,
04:14everyday life, science that they are benefiting from would be really hampered if NIH funding is cut.
04:21And we want medicine to be better.
04:23We want science to continue to contribute.
04:25And that is going to require NIH funding to not be cut.
