00:00Until the Philippines made a move to establish an Air Defense Identification Zone,
00:06China is in the West Philippine Sea, according to the Department of National Defense.
00:11Watch Chino Gaston.
00:17Just this February, a Chinese military helicopter
00:21landed a B-4 airplane in the airspace of Bajo de Macinloc
00:24inside the exclusive economic zone of the Philippines.
00:30While in August, the Chinese fighter jets lost their flares
00:34against the aircraft of the Philippine Air Force in the same place.
00:38It's been a few years since China seems to be implementing control
00:42in the West Philippine Sea.
00:44How can China establish itself in the West Philippine Sea
00:48in the Air Defense Identification Zone or ADIZ,
00:51or the place where all incoming aircraft will be required
00:54to identify, say the location, and be controlled?
00:59China has already done that in parts of the East China Sea
01:02that is surrounded by the exclusive economic zones of Japan and South Korea.
01:05Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. said,
01:08it's illegal if ever.
01:10That's why the Philippines will implement countermeasures
01:13and other allies of the country to counter it.
01:16If it continues, there are Philippine aircraft
01:20that the National Maritime Council has not yet identified.
01:24Aside from that, the Philippine Air Force
01:26that can detect all aircraft in the West Philippine Sea,
01:29can also send air force jets there
01:32to radio challenge and investigate them.
01:35Our radars are capable of detecting air and maritime movements
01:41that extends over our exclusive economic zone.
01:45It's capable also of doing the necessary,
01:48the air force in general is capable of doing the necessary challenges.
01:52According to a security expert,
01:54China has long been expecting the establishment of the ADIZ
01:58in the South China Sea as part of the West Philippine Sea.
02:01It's a zone that a country would declare,
02:04it's primarily a strategic diplomatic move
02:07wherein any aircraft entering that zone
02:10has to identify itself to that country.
02:14Well, you need a lot of facilities,
02:16you need a lot of radar and monitoring system
02:19so you can monitor your airspace.
02:22For GMA Integrated News, I am Chino Gaston, your witness.
