00:00Yeah, so I want to ask you guys a bit about your hopes for the community centre with this
00:10new investment.
00:11I think it's a brilliant asset.
00:12It's basically going to work with families as well.
00:13I normally tend to get a lot from mums, basically worrying about where they can send their children.
00:20Obviously it's going to be covered for all age groups as well, and for all the communities.
00:31So I think it's going to be great.
00:32Okay, so you've done a lot of...
00:33The pair of you and your other councillors as well have done a lot of work to, yeah...
00:36Originally we were advocating for this building to not be disposed, and the second part of
00:42it was that it is a little bit run down, and this is the first form of investment that's
00:49happened in Glaston Park Community Centre since it was built.
00:55We had one of the gentlemen here, Nazim Khan, former councillor, that was the original advocate
01:01for this building as well.
01:04As just following up on what Noreen was saying, we want this to be the main community centre.
01:11It's big enough.
01:12It's got the facilities to sustain badminton, all sorts of sports.
01:17We want an educational facility that's something that we can look upon, and we really want
01:23this to be a proper family hub where sports, education, wellbeing, wellbeing for ladies,
01:31mothers can be all put into this place, and like I said, it's a wonderful, wonderful centre.
01:38Great, and just a little bit about exactly what work's going to be going on here, what's
01:42the money going to be put on here?
01:44So, the money will be spent on, as you see, the electricity, Wi-Fi, repairs to the floor,
01:51the kitchen has been out of commission for so long, where this was originally used for
01:57a lot of weddings, a lot of venues, a lot of other kind of conferences, and it hasn't
02:03been used at full capacity anymore, because we haven't been able to use the old facilities
02:09of the kitchen, and once they come up to standard, it will be brilliant.
02:15Like I said, we can bring back sports tournaments, we can bring back weddings, venues for conferencing,
02:23charity meals, and like I said, we are really, really pumped about this and really, really
02:28excited for the future for this place.
02:30So there's massive potential in this?
02:32There's massive, humongous potential, and we are going to be working with the centre
02:39as well, and just really trying to get everyone involved that wants to be involved, and hopefully
02:46we can have this for the next 20, 30 years again, and hopefully a building for life for
02:52the children around this area as well.
02:54Oh, it's brilliant to be here with local councillors, with important community leaders like Naseem
02:59and Andrew, who have been fighting for years and years to make sure this investment gets
03:03to us.
03:04It's really important, because we've now got the money we need from the combined authority,
03:07which means this can have a complete reboot, we can get the kitchens done, the electrics
03:11done, all the works needed, and we know it's one of the most loved community centres in
03:16Peterborough.
03:17By investing in it, it means we can do even more good work, so more people will be able
03:20to use it, whether it's for weddings, or sports, or other social events.
03:24So real potential here to be a real community hub, especially located centrally in the city
03:27as well.
03:28Absolutely, it's brilliant to see, look, just where we are now, in the middle of the city,
03:31in the heart of so many of our different communities, have that investment in this resource, and
03:35so real vote of confidence in the Glaston Centre, also this bit of Peterborough.
03:39Cool, brilliant.
03:40So I'm so thrilled, the combined authority has been able to give £376,000 to this building
03:46here.
03:47It really needs the work, this is such great news, it's going to be such a fantastic asset
03:51for the local community.
03:52Delighted to be here today.
