00:00The Sinking City 2 is a game that blends the hallmark Lovecraftian designs with survival
00:12horror and investigation.
00:15It has been in development for more than two years, and it's definitely been a challenge.
00:20The first game was a different genre and a different engine, and switching those for
00:23the sequel isn't exactly an easy process, but making a video game in a literal warzone
00:29has tested us in ways we never imagined before.
00:32But first things first.
00:37The Sinking City 2 is a third-person survival horror game that takes place in the iconic
00:42Lovecraftian city of Arkham.
00:45Unlike Oakmont from The Sinking City 1, Arkham is left behind by its residents, with only
00:50a few twisted minds remaining.
00:53It is a decaying labyrinth of flooded streets, crumbling mansions, and eerie silence.
00:59Our biggest priorities are atmosphere and discovery.
01:02Arkham is filled with environmental storytelling, hidden secrets, progression-altering paths
01:08to explore and investigate.
01:11While not open-world, it offers large areas that players can explore both by boat and
01:16on foot, and find mysteries in every corner of the map.
01:23In The Sinking City 2, we have rebuilt the combat from the ground up to deliver fun and
01:28satisfying gunplay.
01:30As you explore Arkham, you will face both iconic Lovecraftian creatures as well as our
01:35own unique monstrosities that expand the Cthulhu mythos.
01:40Each enemy is designed with distinct behaviors to keep encounters dynamic.
01:45For example, smashers will pounce and retreat to disrupt your positioning, while slithers
01:50demand precision to conserve ammo.
01:53To further elevate the experience, our team designed a special wound-body system that
01:58telegraphs each hit in clear and convincing ways, even though there's still a lot of
02:03work ahead.
02:08Investigation has been our studio's identity for a quarter of a century, and in The Sinking
02:11City 2, investigations add a unique twist to the overall experience, while ensuring
02:17that those who prefer to focus on other gameplay elements can still progress without feeling
02:22hindered.
02:23As you play the game, you will find clues scattered across the map pointing to different
02:27mysteries.
02:28And while some clues are more important than others, you don't have to find all of them
02:33to solve your cases.
02:34We don't want to force you to follow a predetermined number of steps as you investigate something.
02:40And while detective work is not required to advance the story, engaging in investigation
02:45and puzzle-solving will unlock powerful gameplay bonuses and new ways to overcome challenges.
02:51We aim to offer you tangible, gameplay-altering rewards for solving mysteries.
02:59With The Sinking City 2, we have made the significant leap to Unreal Engine 5, marking
03:03a pivotal moment for us.
03:06While working with a new engine is always a challenge, Unreal allows us to streamline
03:10quite a few parts of our process.
03:13Lumen alone can elevate the atmosphere and the visuals of a game.
03:17With the help of MetaHuman Animator, we can finally leave the old animation pipeline behind
03:22and get much better results.
03:24We are also actively hiring new talents to create new systems and enhance visuals and
03:29gameplay in ways we couldn't do before.
03:35For those of you who are unfamiliar, our dev team is based in Ukraine.
03:39It's been three years since the start of the Russian invasion, and we even had enough time
03:44to kick off, develop, and release a game during this period.
03:48But it's not really something you can get used to.
03:52Even in Kiev or Western Ukraine that is generally considered safe-ish, everybody still has to
03:58deal with daily drone strikes, regular missile attacks, power outages, and more.
04:04It's bleak days and sleepless nights, since air raid alerts are now 24-7.
04:09For the lack of better words, it's a shitty situation.
04:14And for many of us creating games, it's not just our passion.
04:17It's our way of clinging to normalcy.
04:23Funding raised during this campaign will go towards realizing and polishing some of the
04:27mechanics that we are experimenting with, both big and small.
04:31Better combat, better investigation, new Lovecraftian monsters, etc.
