00:00When people close their eyes and say Senator, a picture of me does not come up in their
00:07head.
00:08And that's the problem, right?
00:10Like that's the problem.
00:11Good morning!
00:12Good morning!
00:13You know, not just being queer, gay, but also being black, also being from, you know, a
00:20poor community.
00:21Like, when you know what it's like to be marginalized and treated unfairly simply because of who
00:25you are, I think you make a better legislator.
00:28They're not trying to shut up everybody.
00:30They're trying to shut up young people.
00:31Turn off this mic.
00:32They're trying to shut up black people.
00:34You're not recognized right now.
00:35They're trying to shut up marginalized people.
00:37If you would lower your tone.
00:38And you can tell me to lower my tone, but I'm not going to lower it when we're talking
00:41about our democracy and people's votes.
00:43And we won't shut up.
00:46Malcolm Kenyatta officially launched his campaign for U.S. Senate.
00:50That's right.
00:51And if elected, he would be the first openly LGBTQ person of color in the U.S. Senate.
00:56Pennsylvania's had 53 senators.
00:59They've all been white men.
01:02Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman is also angling for the working class vote.
01:06Malcolm doesn't have the luxury of going on debate stages wearing hoodies.
01:10People tend to like giving their money to people who they think can win.
01:14People that we represent, they need us to win this Senate race.
01:18They need us to win.
01:21People who want the status quo to remain get real nervous when they see one person step
01:26up.
01:27Because when one person steps up, it gets the other person who was thinking about stepping
01:31up to say, maybe I'll step up too.
01:33The fact that he's black shouldn't matter to anyone else.
01:35I say that's bullshit.
01:37You're so afraid of two little words.
01:39I'm sorry.
01:40I want to also recognize one of the rising stars, Malcolm Kenyatta.
01:45Malcolm Kenyatta.
01:46Malcolm Kenyatta.
01:47If you don't think things will change, having a brother in the state legislature with that
01:50haircut, that's a change.
01:53You know, we love to have a black man as our Senator, but a lot of people wouldn't.
01:58I think we're past that.
02:00We are colorblind.
02:02Our best fighters are going to always come from the people who know what it means to
02:05be left out and left behind.
02:09Do not wait your turn.
