00:00On the heels of its first mass layoff in company history, Southwest Airlines has
00:04announced another cost-cutting measure. Southwest says it plans to shut down two
00:08flight attendant bases, one in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and the other in
00:11Austin, Texas. However, the 280 flight attendants based at those hubs will not
00:16be let go. Instead, Southwest says they can transfer to one of the company's 12
00:20other bases. The bases in Florida and Texas will close July 1st, allowing the
00:24staff there to make arrangements for relocation. Of the move, the airline
00:28released a statement saying this change will ultimately help strengthen our crew
00:31network and support a more reliable operation for our employees and
00:34customers. Southwest has been slashing unprofitable routes, which has affected
00:39hundreds of employees stationed in those cities. But it also announced last month
00:42that it's laying off 15% of all corporate staff, about 1,750 people. The
00:47company says the cuts will save roughly 500 million dollars over the next two
00:51years. That'll do it for your daily briefing from New York City. I'm Lauren
00:55Torres with The Street.
