00:00It is only in fact February and you are already seeing summers kicking off in Bengaluru with
00:07temperatures going up and so there is a water crisis that is playing out in the city.
00:13Now bore wells have been banned in Bengaluru.
00:15The government has banned any new bore well drilling in the city.
00:20This because the ground water levels are at an alarming low level and so Bengaluru could
00:27face a severe water crisis in the months to come.
00:30Already it's an alarming low level and the worst of summer hasn't even hit yet.
00:34Sagaraj is joining us with more details on this.
00:37Sagar it's the same story every single year in Bengaluru of a water crisis come summer.
00:42In February we're already talking about the ground water reaching alarmingly low levels.
00:53Absolutely keeping the peak summer in the mind the Karnataka government has passed an
00:57order banning the bore well drilling across the city.
01:00Remember last year people have faced water scarcity especially when there were increasing
01:05tanker supply water across the city.
01:08Now as a precautionary measures Karnataka government have taken a decision and banned
01:12the drilling of a bore well site which will also lead for more water shortage.
01:17Keeping ground water in the mind and usage of the water during the summer the Karnataka
01:22government have taken this particular decision.
01:24Okay Sagar just stay with me even as we're talking about this water crisis in Bengaluru
01:29there's more breaking news coming in.
01:39Now it seems because of government negligence in Karnataka Krishna river water has flown
01:45into Telangana instead of helping farmers in Karnataka 1.24 DMC of Krishna water has
01:52been diverted to Telangana and it's led to outrage in Karnataka considering that it's
01:57going to be a harsh summer already we're talking about a water crisis not just in Bengaluru
02:01but in the entire state and there are questions about whether the congress government is prioritizing
02:07Telangana where remember the congress is in power there too.
02:11Farmers in places like Yadgira and Raichur are up in arms.
02:14Sagar is joining us with more details on this.
02:16Sagar was this intentional by the Sidramaya government?
02:22Well the water resource minister D.K.
02:26Shukumar has given a clarification that he has signed the papers and they have released
02:30only 1 DMC of water to Telangana and this particular decision was taken keeping the
02:36water requirements in Raichur, Yadgiri and Ballari districts where Krishna river is a
02:42main water source for all these people and in fact the BJP has warned saying that if
02:47they don't stop water flow to Telangana they have to siege the water resource department
02:52and they have also alleged that there was no any kind of orders it was just a verbal
02:57instruction oral instruction which was being given to the officers to release the water
03:01and they have released overnight the water to Telangana and they have also alleged that
03:05they didn't release the water with the during the daytime they have released in the night
03:08since the farmers will not get to know that the water has been released.
03:12Now they had protested in front of the DC office in Yadgiri, Raichur and Ballari and
03:16now they claim that the government is doing this just because there is Telangana there
03:21is a congress government in Telangana but the water resource minister DK Shukumar has
03:25categorically mentioned that you have to help Maharashtra, Maharashtra has to help Karnataka
03:29likewise Telangana should help us and we should help them then it is the sharing of water
03:34between these inter states which helps them in the future and he has also said that keeping
03:39the water requirement in the state especially in these districts Yadgiri, Raichur and Ballari
03:45has released only one TNC of water and it is not going to hamper the requirement of
03:49water in the state of Karnataka and he has made it clear that he has signed the paper
03:54and he is the one who passed the order to release the water to Telangana.
03:58All right Sagar thanks very much for joining us with those details.
