00:00I think, Daniel, one of the features, it feels like, of this run towards the title for Liverpool
00:05is how they have managed to keep stress away, to keep nerves completely out of the picture.
00:10It looks so effortless at times today.
00:13I think the calmness of the manager and the experience of the Spinader team,
00:17the experienced players that they've got in Alice and Virg,
00:21Mo, who have been in these moments, you know, many times.
00:25Obviously they've failed at times coming here as well.
00:28And throughout the season, I think they've performed unbelievable.
00:32They've been consistent.
00:34And I think that's not a trait that is respected a lot of the time,
00:39because I think sometimes, you know, when you're talking about the best players in teams,
00:43sometimes they're top, sometimes they're not.
00:45But when you're looking at the big names for Liverpool,
00:47the goalkeeper, when he's been playing, Virg has been a revelation this season,
00:50and Mo's numbers, I mean, he's on a record pace right now.
00:54So you have to say to them that even though the players are older,
00:57it seems as if they're like fine wine, baby.
00:59They're just getting better as time goes on.
01:01So give them a lot of credit.
01:02And the manager, what he's done to come into the squad, into the club,
01:06and get the squad to play his style,
01:08and almost take on his personality in terms of how calm they are in games,
01:11they seem to stick to his game plan quite often.
01:13Today, those tactics were different.
01:15But again, they come out here, they do whatever they need to do,
01:18and as you said, they adapt.
01:19So I'm really impressed.
01:21Spearheaded by a sensational season from Mo Salah,
01:24as Patrick was alluding to in the questions.
01:26And we'll come on to talk about just what an extraordinary year
01:30it's been for Mo Salah.
01:32But there it is again, and Liverpool fans are not going to tire
01:35of seeing their team 11 points out in front.
01:38And with a versus a superior goal difference as well,
01:4310 better than Arsenal, their nearest challenger right now.
01:46Of course, we're beaten at home by West Ham yesterday
01:50to really put this on Liverpool's plate.
01:53Only three times in Premier League history
01:57has a lead that big or greater been overturned.
02:02The most recent, 97-98.
02:08Micah, can you build a case for something extraordinary happening here
02:14from someone else to come from the pack?
02:16No, I think if Arsenal had a fully fit squad, maybe.
02:20But no sacker, losing Havertz.
02:23I mean, I just don't have anyone at top.
02:25I think if you look at Arsenal probably kicking themselves in January,
02:28they didn't bring anyone in.
02:30Of course, you don't know you're going to get injuries.
02:32But I just think this Liverpool team can adapt.
02:34They've played the heavy metal football,
02:36and then they go back to playing a low block,
02:38and they can counter-attack.
02:39I think everything about this team is just sensational.
02:42It's finding a way to win.
02:44And at times I've watched Liverpool this season,
02:46I don't think they've been scintillating.
02:48I think they've managed their moments really well.
02:50Daniel talked about the key players in the team.
02:52The spine is incredibly good, and they hardly get injured.
02:57That is a main factor.
03:00Jamie talked about Liverpool before and Van Dijk that season
03:03when they didn't compete, he was injured.
03:05But when you've got someone like that at the back,
03:07it makes a massive difference.
03:09You can just see the confidence oozing out of them.
03:11And we'll talk about Mo Salah a bit later.
03:13You know, there are star men turn up every week.
03:15Correct.
03:17That's what you need.
03:18You obviously need a helping hand along the way.
03:20But the only thing we keep saying, we're looking at Arsenal,
03:22we go, Arsenal needs to do better.
03:24But you need other teams to do better.
03:25You can't just keep looking at Arsenal to be them challengers.
03:27They've obviously come up short and maybe again missing that striker.
03:30But it's up to the other teams and some of the other top teams
03:33to start competing.
03:35I know we've been critical of Arsenal for slacking off recently,
03:39but you need one or two other teams to compete as well.
03:41It can't be just on Arsenal.
03:42Daniel mentioned the word legacy when we were talking earlier
03:45about Mo Salah.
03:46But do you think there could be a theory that some of these
03:48senior players in this Liverpool dressing room,
03:50the likes of Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah,
03:54would want more than one league title to show for their efforts
03:57at Liverpool?
03:58I've said this for the last few years.
04:00What Liverpool have done, or the quality players that they've got
04:04and how good a team they've been, they haven't won enough.
04:07I'm not criticising them really.
04:09It's just the competition's been so strong.
04:11You look at Manchester City, arguably four titles in a row,
04:14winning a treble, a domestic treble as well.
04:17Arguably the greatest Premier League team we've seen,
04:20or certainly heard of, is Pep Guardiola.
04:22That's what this Liverpool team have come up against.
04:24When you actually look at what they've won, it isn't enough
04:27for maybe you could frame it a different way.
04:30They probably deserved a little bit more.
04:32They've lost, I think, at least two Champions League finals,
04:35lost the Premier League on the last day of the season twice as well,
04:38but record numbers in terms of points.
04:41Yeah, I think what Mo Salah said there as well, legacy-wise
04:44in terms of winning things, because you've got to think
04:46of the club that you play for.
04:48This is a club who's got as good a history
04:50as probably any club in world football.
04:52So you talk about putting these players up against,
04:55the goalkeeper up against Ray Clements,
04:57or Virgil van Dijk up against Alan Hansen.
04:59These guys have won six, seven titles.
05:02Does this team do that, James?
05:03Do you think if he keeps some of the star men there,
05:05obviously a recruitment at the end of summer,
05:07that they could try and win it for the next two?
05:09Do you think City might need a year or two to rebuild themselves?
05:12Is that the challenge now for this team?
05:14You win the league, kick on for the next two or three years.
05:16You know that better than anybody about winning and going again.
05:19I do think Liverpool are a little bit unfortunate.
05:21The year they won the league, van Dijk gets the big injury.
05:24Sometimes that's hard to replace.
05:27But what I would say is an exciting thing for Liverpool
05:30is Slott didn't buy any... He hasn't bought anyone, really.
05:33They were all cased, and at the last minute,
05:35maybe cover Salah if he was injured.
05:37Now, he's going to know this squad a lot better going into next season.
05:40And if I'm being honest, he only ever uses 14 or 15 players.
05:44There's probably four or five players he doesn't rate in the squad.
05:46I'm not being critical, but he's probably thinking,
05:48OK, now I know what this team needs.
05:50And even though this team's going to go on and win the league title,
05:53I still think there's three positions in this team
05:55that can be improved quite a bit.
05:57It's not about bringing four or five players in as squad players
06:00and improving the team on a certain area.
06:02What positions, would you say?
06:04I think Liverpool could bring a left-back in.
06:06I think they can bring a centre-forward in.
06:08And an attacker midfield player who...
06:10I'm talking about actually going into the team in three areas
06:13and then maybe improve certain areas of the squad as well.
06:16So that's pretty exciting.
06:18You would imagine Liverpool would have money to spend
06:20because, as I said, they haven't spent anything in the last couple of years.
06:22You said this week, actually, I think Arne Slott,
06:24that he knows now, they know now,
06:26which areas of the team they want to target in the summer,
06:29which is an exciting prospect for Liverpool
06:31when they could win it very comfortably this time round.
06:33Let's have a look at the last 11 games they face.
06:36And as I said, seven of them, including the next three,
06:39are at Anfield, which feels like a big advantage, doesn't it,
06:43in the run-in when they need a maximum 26 points
06:48to see off Arsenal,
06:50who can still get to a maximum of 89.
06:54That's if they win all their remaining games.
06:56And I'm not sure if the team here would think that is possible or not.
06:59Liverpool can still get to 97.
07:04So, seven at home.
07:07Do you think it's going to be, what, four or five games
07:10might be the actual celebration start before the end of the season?
07:14Before even Arsenal actually head to Anfield
07:18three weeks before the season's out?
07:20I think they've got some tough games.
07:22Everton, you know, those derby games,
07:24you never know what can happen in those types of games there.
07:27Fulham have been playing an exceptional Newcastle.
07:29They're playing against teams that,
07:31even though some of them are going to be fighting for European places,
07:35and then there's other teams in there,
07:37when players are just playing free and it's like,
07:39you know what, we've not really got much to play for
07:41outside of just showing ourselves and playing well,
07:43it goes the other way as well,
07:45in that at times those teams aren't necessarily at their best.
07:49But for me, they're going to win seven or eight of those games.
07:53If we're being real, they're going to win seven or eight of those games.
07:55The key is how they do it.
07:57They don't have to win in the great way of scoring four or five
08:00or whatever, it's just great if it's a one-nil, it's a one-nil.
08:03What we used to do, you know, obviously with 10, 11, 12 games to go,
08:06the manager would remind players, particularly the strikers,
08:09you score two goals a game, now you win the league.
08:11What was that mentality like when you got that lead?
08:15Obviously, it's more exciting for the neutral if it's a bit tight,
08:18but if you're in a dressing room and you're that much clearer, it's fantastic.
08:21You think you're 11, but a couple of days later you want to be further ahead.
08:24Are you sort of creating your own paranoia that 11 is not enough?
08:27Yeah, you have to have that.
08:29I suppose a bit of tension in the dressing room.
08:32Particularly if you start looking at stats, you think if you slip up now,
08:35you'll be a laughingstock.
08:37You're looking at the players there getting interviewed afterwards,
08:40and obviously they're probably low-key a little bit.
08:42But in the dressing room, you know what a big result is.
08:45The manager knows, the opposition will know,
08:47but you still have to kick on.
08:49Did you tell the players that as a captain,
08:52just keep your head on what sort of environment...
08:54Yeah, you would be reminding people, yeah,
08:56about being complacent and being on your toes.
08:59You need to have a good squad.
09:00Obviously the manager would do it, the senior players would do it.
09:03You make sure you don't slack off in training.
09:05You look at some of the fixtures there, for example,
09:07and you're thinking you're playing Southampton at home,
09:09but you treat Southampton like you're playing Real Madrid.
09:11You treat teams with respect.
09:12And if they carry on doing what they're doing,
09:14Liverpool don't have to do anything extraordinary.
09:17Just do what they're doing, be efficient.
09:19Two goals a game is a big one.
09:20It's a kind of simple message going.
09:22You get them, which you've been doing all season anyway,
09:24two goals a game, you're guaranteed to win the league.
09:26I think when you're speaking,
09:28and I'm speaking because you're speaking about the team that you support,
09:31you're always thinking,
09:32oh, I don't want to say that in case it comes back and haunts me.
09:34But if Man City were in that position or Arsenal...
09:36You'd say it's done.
09:37It's done.
09:38I've said that.
09:39So come on, have a bit of conviction.
09:41I do think it's done.
09:42And it's not just because of the league.
09:44My point being, what you've got to remember is this Liverpool team
09:47have only really lost one game of any significance,
09:51which was Nottingham Forest.
09:52They lost in the Champions League in the dead rubber.
09:54They lost in an FA Cup and they changed the whole team.
09:56And they lost in a first leg against Tottenham,
09:58which was basically half-time, the tie wasn't over.
10:00So really when you go through the season,
10:02this is a team who just don't lose games.
10:04And Arsenal, I think if Arsenal have got a fully fit team
10:06and Liverpool are fully fit, there's probably very little in it.
10:09If they played in a cup final, it's probably a toss of a coin.
10:12But with the injuries they've got, the players that they've had sent off,
10:15they've had a little bit of an unfortunate time,
10:17at times their own fault, as yesterday was.
10:20But Arsenal aren't good enough.
10:21They've got Mourinho up front, he's a midfield player.
10:24You can't win the league with that.
10:25So I think the lead and how good this Liverpool team has been,
10:28there's no-one catching Liverpool.
10:30We keep looking at teams, you go, that's a tough game,
10:32everything's going to be tough.
10:33This was tough today, but they turn up.
10:35Yep, they just keep on trucking, don't they, and keep on winning.
10:38And talking of reminders, Manchester City are just reminding everyone here,
10:42if you just look behind you on the little screen there...
10:45HE LAUGHS
10:47..four-year-old champions!
10:49THEY LAUGH
10:50They're City champions, that's right.
