00:00OK!
00:08Ron Parker, a very happy 102nd birthday, born this day, the 24th of February, in the year of our Lord, 1923.
00:23Ron has been with us at Head Veterans since May 2021 and is a very much loved resident and friend to so many of you here today and many more.
00:37And to mark this very special birthday as Ron turns 102.
00:44Ron was called up to serve in 1942 at just the tender age of 18, working as a sapper in the Royal Engineers Regiment in World War II.
00:59Ron played a vital role in supporting British Armed Forces.
01:05His deployment to Normandy came after D-Day landings and at a time when the war was still a fervent storm of activity.
01:17Ron and his unit were part of the follow-up forces tasked with rescue operations in the wake of the initial assault.
01:29Ron can recall vivid memories of the relentless movement through the war-torn landscapes of Europe, from the beaches of Normandy to the beleaguered city of Antwerp.
01:43On behalf of the good people of the Borough of Worthing, we'd like to wish Ron a very happy and healthy 102nd birthday.
01:54Ron, happy birthday and God save the King!
02:07Happy birthday dear Ron, happy birthday to you.
02:16Three cheers for Ron, hip hip!
02:18I was going to say, I'm not used to making speeches, so I think we'll skip this one.
