Catholics in Buenos Aires attended Mass on Sunday to pray for Pope Francis' recovery.

The hospitalization of the 88-year-old pope due to a severe lung infection has prompted thousands of faithful worldwide to pray for his recovery, especially in Argentina, where he was born.

On Sunday, dozens of Argentines gathered in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Cathedral to pray for the pontiff and to remember when one of their own became pope. (Video courtesy of Associated Press)

00:00We all pray together, asking for the Church, and especially for our Holy Father, Pope Francis.
00:12God is the Father, and the Son is the Holy Spirit. Amen.
00:23We accompany the Pope in this moment, but we also ask the whole Church
00:29that the Pope may reestablish himself to continue the mission that God gave him
00:36when he was chosen as Bishop of Rome and Pastor of the Universal Church.
00:43My great wish is that he recovers, that he returns to his activity, despite all the evil he has,
00:56but I don't think he has the hope that he will come to Argentina, because when he could, he didn't.
01:03And now, I don't think he will come.
01:05Clearly, the whole Christian people, concerned about the health of the Holy Father,
01:10we are gathered here to make our prayers and ask for his quick recovery.
