00:00Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah
00:17I got a feeling
00:21I see the sparks
00:25Spreading like a wildfire
00:28Burning in the dark
00:58Which is basically on the very most northerly eastern border of Norway
01:05Literally right next to Russia
01:08So there is an actual border checkpoint to Russia in the town of Kirkenes
01:13So we drove all the way up there for a very specific reason
01:18Number one, two specific reasons
01:20Number one to start the arctic coastal route all the way up to the most northern point at Nordkapp
01:25So that we can say that we've towed a caravan all the way up to the very most northerly point of mainland Europe at Nordkapp
01:32And number two, to go to a very cool looking snow hotel which we found online
01:40And we thought it was the perfect place to start this arctic coastal route up to the mainland, up to the very top
01:47And so that's what this video is all about
01:50Unfortunately, on the day that we filmed this video, every single clip filmed on our main camera, which is this one, was corrupt
01:58The memory card, I don't know what happened to it, I don't know if the cold got to it or what
02:02It was a very cold day, but I don't know what happened to it
02:05So everything filmed, corrupt, so none of the clips are usable
02:09So the vlog that you're going to see might seem a little bit jumpy in some places, but hopefully not too much
02:14I think most of the stuff that tell the story of the day were filmed on our other two cameras, not this one
02:20But it's definitely missing an intro, so you might just be a little, woah, we're just suddenly at a random hotel in the middle of the top of Norway
02:28So that's basically what we're doing, we're going to the arctic snow hotel to do some activities there today in this video
02:34And the girls have got something really cool that they are going to be doing at the night time as well
02:40So hopefully you guys stick around
02:42Isabel's video over on her channel is also accompanying this video, so if you want to watch that afterwards
02:48Then you get to see the continuation of this day on her channel over there
02:53So hopefully that's not too confusing, but welcome to the snow hotel in Kirkenes, at the very top of Norway
02:59Oh my goodness, look at this hotel, so nice
03:12Roddy, you want to come see reindeers? Come on, let's go see
03:17This way girls
03:24Careful of the step Roddy, good girl
03:27There's no more steps
03:29Look
03:31Hi reindeer
03:33Who's that?
03:34Reindeer

03:50Oh his antlers have come off on one side
03:52It looks really sore actually
03:58What's that?
03:59He's got a poly on his head
04:04Fingers away, fingers away guys
04:07Hi reindeer
04:09Hi Rudolph
04:11That's a poodle
04:13That's what I said, I was like oh
04:15Don't their horns come off at this time of year?
04:17Yeah they do, naturally
04:19They actually fall off, yeah
04:21But I don't know how it's meant to look when it falls off
04:24That one looks angry doesn't it?
04:25That one looks a bit sore yeah, but maybe it's meant to be like that, maybe it's not, I don't know
04:29But it's still got one on
04:31He's eating the snow
04:33That's it
04:37What is he ignoring you Mila?
04:56Hi, no throwing snowballs you two
05:00Shall we go and see if we can find some husky dogs?
05:07Don't put your fingers in our hair
05:13His woofers are going woof woof
05:20Hi
05:22Woof woof
05:24They look like kind of like
05:26Woof
05:28Doggy, say doggy
05:30See the doggies?
05:32See the woof woofs?
05:34Look at the doggies
05:36Wow
05:38Wow
05:40Look at our puppies, the whoopee puppies
05:42Little puppies
05:44Whoopee pup
05:46No no no
05:48No no no
05:50Little puppies
05:54Aw the puppy huskies are so cute
05:58What's that Roddy?
06:00What's that?
06:02So they're a little full, they're bigger than me
06:06They're so cute
06:08Can I hold their hand?
06:10Yeah you've got your glove on haven't you
06:12No don't do that, be careful
06:14Because they might bite, we don't know
06:16There we go
06:18Aw they're so nice, you having a nibble of my finger?
06:20Ok
06:22Dad's about to lose his finger, don't do what dad's doing guys
06:26Aw hello guys
06:28Hello darling
06:30Look at the dog whispering me, every dog loves me
06:32Hello darling, little sweetheart
06:34Hello darling, hello sweetie
06:36Hello
06:38I don't want nibble my nose
06:40He's trying to nibble my nose off
06:42Hello darling
06:44Hello darling
06:46Hello darling
06:48Are you going to bite me or what? I can't tell
06:52A kiss?
06:54Aw you trying to bite me darling
06:56Ok ok
06:58Also guys ignore my ring
07:00It's just turned my finger green over the last two days
07:02It's from H&M
07:04And it won't come off so I'm not dirty
07:06I wash my hands all the time but it won't come off
07:08And I kind of like the ring so it's staying on
07:10Your thumb looks mouldy
07:12It's just got a green undertone
07:14It's all good
07:16Wow look Roddy
07:18Wow these are so cool
07:22They're really cute aren't they, the lovely Jays
07:24Look at all the dog dogs
07:26Hello darling
07:28Roddy you want to come and see?
07:30Come and see the dog dog
07:32What's this doggy doing?
07:34Look he's so lovely
07:36Look
07:38Dog dog
07:44Do you like the dog dogs?
07:46Those two are fighting
07:48Hello darling
07:50Hello darling
07:52Hello darling
07:54Those are fighting
07:56They're not fighting Jays
07:58They're just playing
08:00Shall we go see some other ones?
08:02Yeah
08:04Guys let's go see a black one
08:08He's giving you a kiss
08:10Oh really
08:20You want some more?
08:22Go get him
08:24What?
08:26That one does not like me
08:28She ran really fast past him
08:30And jumped out
08:32I'll go see him
08:34Hello come here
08:36Hello there come here
08:38You don't like little people?
08:40Go
08:42It's ok
08:44It's ok
08:46He's not pretty
08:48Look he's little people
08:52What was that?
08:54What darling?
08:56She loves them
08:58Do you like the wolf wolves?
09:00Do you want to give him a hug?
09:02Shall we go say hi?
09:04Come on then
09:06Say hi
09:08Hello
09:10That was noisy
09:12Come here
09:16Look he's lovely
09:18Doggy
09:22He's so cute
09:28What's he doing?
09:30Say woof woof
09:32Say woof woof
09:34He did it
09:40Esme spilled some dinner on her trousers
09:42The other night
09:44Obviously we've not had a chance to wash them
09:46But the husky dogs are doing the work for it
09:50That's so funny
09:52Oh my gosh they're so sweet
09:58I know
10:00Rory wants to play with you
10:02They're so cute
10:04Guys look what Jase is playing with
10:06He's so cute
10:12Look it's like come on
10:14Come on play
10:16Come on
10:20That's so cute
10:24That's adorable
10:26This one's a feisty one
10:28This one's a feisty little one
10:30Aren't you?
10:32This one's so funny
10:34It keeps laying down
10:36And rubbing itself in the snow
10:38Oh it's so sweet
10:40What's that one doing?
10:44So that's the main part of the hotel there
10:46And then when you come round
10:48You've got these gorgeous huts here
10:50I wish we could stay in one of these tonight
10:52Obviously children can stay in these ones
10:54But they're fully booked
10:56Even if we did want to
10:58The snow hill is actually the actual ice hotel
11:00It's called the snow hotel not the ice hotel
11:14This is so cool
11:16So inside the snow hotel
11:18This is how it's been for
11:20As many years as this hotel has been running
11:22Because this is frozen 24-7
11:24365 days a year
11:26With special technology
11:28I know I've said this before
11:30But that's what makes this hotel super unique
11:32Compared to others
11:34Because you can come to it
11:36365 days a year
11:42These are so cute
11:46Oh that's amazing
11:56That's so cool
12:02Woah
12:04This is one of the double rooms
12:08This is the wall where Michael's
12:10Go Football called
12:12And even there's a security guard
12:14Prison break room
12:18It's so cold
12:20Woah
12:26Oh so cool
12:30Woah
12:34These are the family rooms I think
12:36Really cool
12:38It's really weird
12:40You can kind of tell
12:42The other ice hotels that are built every single year
12:44And then they melt
12:46They kind of look like smooth ice
12:48But here it's like feathery
12:50Do you get what I mean?
12:52Like it's growing
12:54Like feathery
12:56Like you can tell
12:58It's really cool
13:00It looks like crystal
13:02It's like crystals
13:04Let's go through this other room
13:06That Mila's very excited about
13:14It's mad how soundproof these things are
13:16Let's go
13:18Dad look
13:20Yes?
13:22You can't breathe there
13:28Let's go this way
13:30Close your eyes
13:32Close them
13:36Ok
13:38Can you see it Addy?
13:42Woah
13:46Woah
13:48That's so cool
13:50It's ice
13:52It's Anna and Elsa's room
13:54Olaf
13:56Olaf
13:58Ice is my life
14:00That's so funny
14:02That's so funny
14:14Addy
14:20This hotel seems really mystical
14:22Doesn't it?
14:24Look at what I mean on the roof
14:26Look at that
14:28Oh my gosh
14:30Look at that
14:32Look at this
14:34Do you think it's warm in here?
14:36If you don't breathe
14:38Then when you breathe
14:42It's warm
14:44It's cold
14:46You probably should film the other side
14:48You've got a double chin
14:50No you've got no double chin
14:52It's really cool
14:54Because you've got to crouch down to get into these rooms
14:56And I feel like that gives it more of a mystical feeling
14:58Because you're crouching down
15:00Into like underground
15:02Yeah they are like igloos
15:04All of these rooms are actually like igloos
15:06Because they're all dome shaped
15:08Whereas previous ones we've been to in the past
15:10Have not been like that
15:12But these are all like
15:14You feel like you're in an igloo
15:16Every single one
15:18This is really cool
15:20This one
15:22Yeah it's cool isn't it
15:24Yeah it's cool
15:28Oh
15:40Where are you going?
15:42I'm going to this one now
15:44I'm going to make it on the other side
15:52It can be themed
15:58Woah
16:04It's breathtaking
16:06Look how cool this is
16:08Look at the fjord
16:10Yeah that is amazing
16:12That is so cool
16:14So one of the drives to get here was hairy
16:16Only with like a van
16:18And a caravan towing on the back
16:20If we just had the van on it's own it would have been too bad
16:22We've seen
16:24Proper big coaches
16:26We're like
16:28What the heck
16:30It's only because we've got the caravan on we have to be much more careful
16:32But wow this is so nice
16:34This is very beautiful
16:36There's king crabs under there
16:38Oh yeah definitely
16:40So what now?
16:42Oh yeah definitely big spider gangly things
16:44Put a picture of a king crab up
16:46They're so ugly
16:48Come on Aurora
16:50And then coming round the last part just at the end of the rooms
16:52You've got the ice bar
16:54Best treat for an icy hotel
16:56Oh icy gems they are the best treat
16:58Where did you find these mate?
17:00I bought them
17:02Ok mate
17:04This is very cool
17:06Look at that
17:10And finally we enter
17:12The ice bar
17:20That is really cool
17:26Isabel's new profession
17:28Can you give them ice beers
17:30The ice beers
17:44How's your ice beer
17:46Really dry
17:52You guys are taking role playing
17:54To a whole new level
17:58Wow it's so pretty
18:10The white snow and the yellow light
18:12It's so pretty
18:14Yeah you can't beat that combination
18:28Music playing
18:54Ok a little editing cut in right here
18:56At this point in the video
18:58We were about to go out on a traditional
19:00Sami people experience
19:02So we had a very lovely guide
19:04Is that corrupt
19:06No just the start one did when you were explaining what we were doing
19:08So we had a very lovely guide
19:10Who basically was
19:12A Sami person and he took us
19:14Talked to us all about the reindeers
19:16We fed the reindeers and he told us all this amazing
19:18History and facts about the Sami people
19:20We had a fire with him, we sang songs with him
19:22All that's in
19:24There's no point in them watching it now
19:26No they can watch it now
19:28He's just told them everything that happens
19:30You need to have this into a clip
19:32Otherwise the next clip doesn't make sense
19:34The Sami reindeer herder was telling us about how
19:36All the reindeers in northern territories
19:38Up here
19:40Are not wild
19:42There's no wild reindeer up here
19:44All of them are owned by Sami people
19:46So if you come across a reindeer up in the northern territories
19:48Of Norway or Sweden or Finland
19:50Those reindeers are owned
19:52By somebody, there's no wild reindeers
19:54So now hopefully the next clips
19:56Make sense
19:58But when the ice starts melting the reindeers start moving
20:00This direction, they came from the east
20:02And the Sami people at that time
20:04They were just hunting
20:06So they follow the reindeers and find these places
20:08Good to stay
20:10Thank you reindeers
20:12We're very happy to be here
20:14You enjoy, you maybe think it's cold
20:16But this is a very warm day
20:18That one's definitely
20:20Looking like it's definitely
20:22Freshly fallen off today
20:28We're just grabbing some reindeer food
20:34We're going to find the reindeer
20:38Also I said before that they have to be owned
20:40Only by Sami people
20:42These reindeer that have been rented
20:44From this hotel, from a Sami family
20:46Actually own
20:4810,000 reindeer
20:52So that's why there's some here
20:54At this hotel
20:56I thought it was just at the top here
20:58But it's not, further up the hill
21:00Come on Rudolph
21:02Let's get on ice.com
21:08The chicks likes to hand feed them
21:14Oh you dropped it
21:16They can eat it
21:18Yeah they can
21:22It doesn't move by your fingers
21:24It's really cute
21:26Are you going to hold the bucket
21:28Hold it
21:32Welcome Mila
21:36One second
21:40Actually
21:42Very very sweet
21:46Yeah you can pet it
21:54This one's so cute
21:56Can you get me that Dan
21:58So I can hand feed them
22:00Dotcom's here
22:02He's about to
22:04Tuck your trousers
22:06Watch my fingers
22:08You just got slobbered
22:10They haven't done that to me
22:12They just pick it out my hand
22:14They don't like these bad mans
22:16No they like that plant thing
22:20This is the plant
22:22One second Mila
22:24This is the plant they eat
22:26And it's hard to get hold of
22:28Because it's actually illegal
22:30To pick this off the ground
22:32But this is hard for the reindeer to get in winter time
22:36This is like the worst pixelated shot ever
22:40But obviously because of the frozen ground
22:42It's hard for them to get
22:44Especially when it's weather like it's been this season
22:46Where it's melting a little bit
22:48And then the ground's turning to ice
22:50It's really cool though
22:52Ok we're walking
22:54Further on
22:56Up the mountain
22:58Let's go guys
23:06Yeah it's slippy
23:12Wow look at this place
23:14It's amazing
23:16Oh my gosh
23:18It looks so cool
23:20Look at that
23:22Oh my goodness
23:24But we're still going
23:26Oh wow
23:28We're at Sammy Tent
23:38No
23:40Hello
23:46Come on Mila
23:54This is made on my sister
23:56You can't buy this type of dresses
23:58In a regular shop
24:00There will always be someone in the family
24:02Or neighbours or friends who can make them
24:04And we are teaching each other
24:06So the traditions are
24:08Keeping alive
24:12This is made on my wife
24:16They are made for
24:18Special occasions like birthdays
24:20Weddings and celebrations
24:22And not made for walking
24:24In deep snow
24:26You just close your shoes with this thread
24:28For the daily shoes
24:30Better to
24:32Walk in deep snow
24:34Because around your ankle you use this type of ribbon
24:36You put it around and tighten it
24:38Then you don't get snow in your shoes
24:40You can walk in deep snow
24:42Having no problem
24:44These are ladies trousers
24:46Yeah
24:48Do you suspend us to keep them on?
24:52That's also what this circle symbolises in the middle here
24:56The unity among the Sami people
24:58We are living in four countries
25:00We have also different languages
25:02Quite different, so different that
25:04We are using the North Sami language
25:06I don't understand for example the East Sami
25:08They have a totally different language
25:12If I listen to them I can maybe get an idea
25:14What they are talking about
25:16Because there are some similar words
25:20You see
25:22The circle has also two colours
25:24One half is red and the other is blue
25:26The red symbolises the sun
25:28And the blue is the moon
25:30The yellow and the green colour symbolise
25:32Nature and the animals in our area
25:34Which we call Sami
25:36The land, our land
25:38We don't have our own countries
25:40We are citizens of Norway
25:42Citizens of Sweden, Finland and Russia
25:44So but we have an area
25:46Our land which we call Sami
25:48So where the Sami people
25:50Originally lived
25:52Time for a bit of traditional Sami singing guys
25:54Have you ever heard our songs?
25:56No
25:58Never
26:00Have you heard our songs?
26:02No
26:04Maybe you want to sing with me?
26:06No
26:08What about you?
26:10No
26:12But maybe you can sing your own song later
26:14Or
26:16Do you like to sing?
26:18I like to sing
26:20Which song do you like?
26:22Which song do you like?
26:24Have you a favourite song?
26:30No
26:32Probably
26:34Ok
26:36I'm going to do a song
26:38We are making songs to each other
26:42To honour each other
26:44And
26:48Almost
26:50How to say
26:52Usually it's only one song
26:54Per person
26:56And this song
26:58It's like I have my own song
27:00My dad, my brother, my sister
27:02My uncle, my grandpa
27:04So I'm going to do my grandpa's song
27:06Now
27:08My father's father's song
27:10It's given to him
27:12I don't know actually
27:14Who made this song for him
27:16It can be a neighbour, it can be a friend
27:18It can be some family member
27:20But it's usually just one song per person
27:22And these songs are
27:24Like a private thing
27:26Important thing for the person
27:28Because it's like
27:30Part of their personality
27:32So when I do my grandpa's song
27:34There can be memories
27:36Back in the past
27:38Which I have forgotten
27:40But when I do the song
27:42It pops up in my mind
27:44So that's a very good thing
27:46To have your own song
27:48So
27:50My grandpa was born in 1901
27:52One of my favourite persons
27:54He was kind of hero for me
27:56And he died in year 2000
27:58How old was he?
28:00That's amazing
28:02He was born in 1901
28:0499 years old
28:06That's amazing
28:08He was 99 years old
28:10You got that quicker than I did
28:12What's the secret?
28:14I tell you what's the secret
28:16He was living between those two villages
28:18My mum's place where I'm born
28:20Kautokeinu and Karasho
28:22There was only two houses there
28:24And when I was young there was no road
28:26So you need to walk like the last
28:2820 kilometres to visit
28:30In Karasho
28:32It's between Karasho
28:34But now it's
28:36It's a road there so you can drive
28:38If you drive from Karasho to Kautokeinu
28:40When you come to a place where you can see
28:42It's a difficult name
28:44But it's Chottamohki
28:46Chottamohki
28:48Then if you look to the left
28:5020 kilometres on the road
28:52There's my home place
28:54My father's home place
28:56My grandfather's home place
28:58So there was a nice river
29:00Just 20 metres from his house
29:02A lot of fish when I was young
29:04Big salmons
29:06And they had two cows
29:08They had 15-20 sheep
29:10Reindeers
29:12And growing their own vegetables
29:14Making their own cheese and butter
29:16And milk for the cows
29:18And for the sheep and the reindeers
29:20What else do you need?
29:22Probably that's the reason why he gets old
29:24But one thing more
29:26He was also smoking a pipe
29:28His whole life
29:30Chewing tobacco
29:32And every evening
29:34He took one spoon of cognac
29:38So maybe that's the secret
29:40Eat healthy
29:42Smoke pipe
29:44Chew tobacco
29:46Every evening
29:48He never told me how big the spoon was
29:52Biting a big salmon
29:54So this is my grandpa
29:56Aslak is his name
29:58I forgot to tell you my name
30:00My name is Joon Henrik
30:02Or in English it's John Henry
30:06You can use John
30:08Maybe it's easy to remember
30:10Okay, Aslak
30:16Aslak
30:46Aslak
31:02Very calm
31:04Never in hurry
31:06Just relaxing, enjoying life
31:08Walking slowly, talking slowly
31:12Your song can be like this
31:16Hey yolo
31:24Hey yolo
31:32Just drum it
31:34I can sing it
31:36You are drumming
31:38Okay, ready?
31:42Like this
31:46Hey yolo
32:00Very good
32:02Well done
32:04You were great
32:08This is just stunning
32:12It's so pretty
32:14Yeah, it's been one of my favourite days as well
32:16It's been so interesting
32:18Once I get to Utah
32:20It's been so interesting and just fascinating
32:22Awesome
32:24I've absolutely loved it
32:26We're now heading down to the restaurant for dinner
32:28Okay, I think we're at the restaurant
32:30This is so pretty
32:32You got your torch juice?
32:34Good boy
32:36I think he said that we're probably going to be having reindeer
32:38That's cool though
32:40I'm down
32:42Traditional food
32:44It's all good
32:46I like that for a Christmas tree though
32:48That's fascinating
32:50That's really cool
32:56Hello
32:58Hi, good thank you
33:00Come, come get to your table
33:04This is so pretty
33:06Look at this place, it's so cabin-y
33:08Soup just arrived
33:10And you can see why
33:12When I said before it looked like
33:14Or it sounded like a pod type of soup
33:16This looks so good
33:20I'll tell you someone who's loving the soup
33:24Aurora's eating mine
33:26She's absolutely loving it
33:28Did you steal mama's soup?
33:30Is it good?
33:32You can have my soup darling
33:34I don't mind
33:36Yum, yum, yum
33:40She's absolutely loving that
33:46Are you a soup girl?
33:48So cute
34:00The little three have got
34:02A chocolate ice cream
34:04And I was going for it with those
34:06What is it called again?
34:08Meringue, I always call it marzipan
34:10The guy very generously brought over
34:12Some toppings
34:14So we've got those
34:16And then some
34:18Over there
34:20Aurora's straight in with the blueberries
34:22Which I did just crush
34:28I've got a bit more rice
34:30I'm going to try
34:34I'll see you tomorrow after
34:36I've stayed in the big ice hotel
34:38I'm going to miss you
34:40Night night Roddy
34:42Bye mum and dad
34:46Love you
34:48Have fun
34:50A really exciting part of this evening
34:52Which is the sleeping part
34:54Because we did actually decide to sleep over
34:56We had a woman go through
34:58The whole introduction
35:00And how you're meant to sleep
35:02It's actually really complicated
35:04I'm going to take you guys downstairs in a minute
35:06And show you everything
35:08But there's a specific way you have to
35:10Wear your sleeping bag
35:12There's a specific way for literally everything
35:14Right anyway
35:16So I'm sleeping on this one
35:18Isla as night
35:32Ooh
35:36Ooh
35:46Eh
