00:00Hi Joss, a bit of a good punch that one, just your initial reactions to it really?
00:09Just your initial reactions to it to be honest?
00:11Yeah, really good game of cricket. To put 3.50 on the board I thought was a great effort.
00:18Ben Duckett played absolutely outstanding innings, really pleased for him but credit
00:26to Australia that was a fantastic chase and Josh Inglis played brilliant innings to see
00:32them home.
00:33Did you think you had enough on the board at half-time or do you think you were about
00:3720-30 short?
00:38No, I thought we had a really good score. The way the wicket played there in the day
00:42time, a little bit of in different bounds or the ball wasn't quite coming on so well
00:49but there was always a little bit maybe on if the dew came in and how much it came in
00:54so it did start to skid on a bit more in the second half but that being said they were
01:00going to have to play really well to score 3.50 but they managed to.
01:03When you're on a bit of a losing where is it harder and harder to recapture that winning
01:08feeling at all?
01:09I think the longer it goes on hopefully the closer you get to winning and the optimism
01:15and the belief is very much there in the team. Sometimes you put in a really good performance
01:21but the opposition are desperate to win and can play well too so I think we have to be
01:27proud of the way we played today and the way we performed but give credit to the opposition
01:32for just being a little bit better and getting over the line.
01:35It leaves the equation pretty simple really now doesn't it? Win your last two games and
01:39hope that's enough to get in the semi-final.
01:41Yeah absolutely, that's the way this competition is set up and every game is a must win.
01:51It can be said that it's hard making a lot of scores in this ground and after that score
02:03losing a match so you're asking that you're optimistic in the future so Champions Trophy
02:09is a very tough tournament, losing one game you're losing the tournament so what would
02:14be your focus on your bowling because in batting you're scoring enough runs but in bowling
02:21you're not able to defend them so what would be your focus in upcoming matches? Bowling
02:27and if bowling so you will increase in the fast bowling sense are the spinners.
02:41That would be in the spin sense of the fast pacers.
02:46Yeah I think you're always trying to reflect on the games and areas that you can improve
02:52and those kind of things. I thought there were a few phases in the game where we bowled
02:56really nicely in partnerships and we starved them of the boundaries and that created chances.
03:01A couple of times I was just trying to find a way of reducing that boundary in the over
03:07and any time the pressure came they managed to play a really good shot or get away so
03:13I think that's always the focus for me as a captain and this is a bowling unit just
03:19ways that we can restrict that extra boundary in the over to keep pushing the scoreboard
03:26pressure up there.
03:27Where do you think you lose the match? Is it because of the middle partnership between
03:35Inglis and Carey or do you think that the missed chance caused you the game?
03:42No I thought they put together a really good partnership. As I just said we built some
03:47nice pressure to get a couple of wickets together in Labuschagne and Short and then Carey and
03:54Inglis coming together they played well they put together a good partnership. We have credit
04:01to them we just needed to try and find a way to eke out that wicket there and get them
04:06five down with a few more still on the board.
04:09Hi Josh, apologies I missed the start so if you've already answered the question I've
04:14been ducking it. Sorry about that but I guess as an innings we can't really talk too much
04:19about because he was brilliant tonight. What kind of a market does that set for him this
04:24year across all formats because it's kind of an innings that I guess England fans can
04:30look to and take solace from despite the defeat?
04:32Yeah absolutely. I'm sure there won't be too many times he scores 160 and ends up on the
04:38losing side. I think he's played fantastically well. I think he's been in great form for
04:45England across all the formats for the last few years and obviously getting his chance
04:51at the top of the order in the ODIs. I think his game is just perfectly suited to scoring
04:56big, big runs. Asked before the tournament I said I think he could be the first Englishman
05:02to score a double hundred in ODI cricket and I think an innings like today just really
05:08should really prove to him how consistent he can be and how big a run he can score in
05:15this format. Obviously it's a big year for English cricket and he's going to be at the
05:20forefront of it so to start as he has done here and looking ahead I'm sure England fans
05:26will be excited to watch him back for the rest of the year.
05:29Matt and then a bit more on the circuit.
05:31Josh did you feel short of bowling options in that innings? Obviously Jacob Beck will
05:36get injured, hasn't helped the balance of your team but you only really had the five
05:40or six bowling options.
05:42No I didn't feel short at all. No, like the balance of the team that we went with. I thought
05:48Root and Livingstone bowled really well, built some nice pressure there together. I just
05:55think you've got to sometimes credit the opposition. I thought Josh Inglis played a fantastic innings.
06:02Josh, in this kind of tournament losing one match can mean a lot. I mean you've got the
06:09two matches left and you have to win those two matches to get back into the tournament.
06:13So what do you think, where were you lacking today and any specific plans for the next
06:17upcoming two matches? Because Afghanistan can play really good in these kind of conditions,
06:20they have good spinners. So any specific plans for upcoming two matches?
06:25No, we just sort of let the dust settle on today I think and then we'll reflect on the
06:31performance. I think as a whole the performance was very good. We've been wanting to, as a
06:38batting unit, build some big partnerships. Obviously Root and Duckett did that today
06:43which allowed us the platform to score 350. And yeah, obviously like you say, the way
06:49that this competition is, it's must win games. So we'll plan well, we'll keep the boys upbeat
06:55and lots of optimism and the belief there within the group and dust ourselves down and go again.
