In honor of the Tkachuk brothers carrying Team USA hockey, what are some of the best accomplishments from sports brothers?
Transcript
00:00I have all over the DMV on 106.7.
00:02We are, of course, live in Richmond for three hours every day as well.
00:06And right now we are available to you in Richmond on AM 9, 10 FM 1 0 5 1.
00:12Danny, the Kachuk brothers were a couple of the stars of Team USA's
00:16four nations run in hockey.
00:18They got to the championship game last night.
00:20Millions of people watch was a smashing success for hockey.
00:24But I think that when those two brothers fought back to back
00:28in the opening and the second second of the U.S.
00:32candidate game over the weekend.
00:35I filed that away as one of the coolest accomplishments.
00:37Never seen anything like that for brothers in sports that I've ever seen.
00:41It would be the equivalent of going back to back with home runs or,
00:44you know, alley open to each other in basketball.
00:47I just think about.
00:49Dudes being dudes, just being a bros in your backyard with your brother
00:52and you're competing for Team USA in a game everybody cares about
00:56and is watching, and then you're getting in back to back fights
00:59in one of the coolest, like centrist showdowns that's happened.
01:02Like I can't I can't remember seeing anything like that.
01:04There have been unique moments where Ken Griffey Jr.
01:06steals the fly ball from his dad or, you know, honestly, LeBron
01:10playing with his son now in the league.
01:12I mean, there have been some of those individual things.
01:14Brothers have been teammates before, but I've never seen that.
01:18You know what I mean?
01:18I've never seen representing your country against a hated rival going.
01:23You know, we should probably do within the first
01:25literally three seconds of the game is get some five minute majors
01:28for throwing hands. Never seen that.
01:29I thought we could open up the phone, though, to talk about brother
01:32accomplishments in sports all time at eight hundred six, three, six, one,
01:37oh, six, seven on the MGM National Harbor Lister lines, eight hundred six,
01:42three, six, one, oh, six, seven.
01:44Most famous, most accomplished, most successful.
01:48We could start there and there's a couple other avenues we could drive here.
01:51But I think when I start thinking about a tandem of brothers in sports,
01:57I think any current list right now, this moment has to start with the man.
02:00Of course. Yeah.
02:01Famous for Peyton and Eli Super Bowl champions.
02:06Peyton, two rings.
02:08Eli, two rings somehow.
02:10Both are going to end up in the Hall of Fame somehow.
02:13And now they're ubiquitous in media.
02:16Eli's hilarious on television is a really fun watch
02:19on the Manning cast with Peyton.
02:21Peyton, understandably, is a rock star in everything he does,
02:24whether it's hosting SNL comedically or TV shows as a pitch man.
02:29I think he could be will be if he wants to be a GM, a team president,
02:33some type of role like that.
02:34John Elway style in football.
02:36You see Tom Brady already kind of becoming that
02:38while he's one of the lead color commentators.
02:41Peyton's doing it his own way, creating his own company
02:44and media empire without really going to one of the networks.
02:46But it's hard for me to imagine any list wouldn't start with the Mannings.
02:52That's where everybody's minds jump to.
02:53I guarantee right at the top. Right.
02:55And for good reason, you said they also play quarterback.
02:58There have been other great football pairings or even a set of siblings
03:01like the Watt brothers are all superstars.
03:03I guess Derek's not the fullback played in the NFL.
03:06But like you first, of course, you're going to jump to the marquee spot
03:09where the pregame is about during the game.
03:11The story is about postgame.
03:13It's about media empire, et cetera.
03:14The Watt brothers is actually good.
03:16I didn't jot them down.
03:18They've got to be very high on the accomplishment list.
03:21You would say, right?
03:21JJ is going to be a Hall of Famer and TJ is going to be on his way, right?
03:25Are they number two in terms of the best brother tandem ever?
03:28I'm thinking about like the Siddines in hockey and Henrik and Daniel Siddine.
03:34I think both Kelsey's will end up in the Hall of Fame.
03:36I agree with that.
03:37Jason and Travis.
03:39But the Watts might be the second best brother duo.
03:42So I've got I've got a bunch. Actually.
03:44I want to throw at you.
03:45OK, I'm here for it.
03:46But real quick, are the Watts not better than the Mannings
03:50in terms of overall quality?
03:52Because Peyton Manning is a greatest of all time caliber quarterback.
03:56My Eli correctness is going to show here for a second.
04:00A little bit jaggy.
04:02He was good and he won two Super Bowl.
04:04JJ Watt and TJ Watt are both going to go down
04:07as one of the best players in their era at their position.
04:10Two of the top, we'd say, 25 pass rushers ever.
04:14So I'm going to put Manning's more famous Watts.
04:16Better brother, more accomplished.
04:19Let me let me throw some curveballs at you.
04:20Ready for these?
04:21So what about Vitaly and Vladimir Klitschko?
04:26Vitaly Klitschko, a pair of brothers who were both world
04:29heavyweight boxing champions. Very good.
04:32How how interesting is that, by the way?
04:34Yeah, Vladimir, Vladimir and Vitaly Klitschko.
04:38That's a really good one.
04:38Yeah, I thought that would be pretty special to break on you.
04:42How many brothers have ever both been champions in boxing?
04:46I couldn't tell you. Is there another?
04:48I need a boxing listener here.
04:49I can't think of anything top of my head where you're like
04:53George Foreman and Bo Foreman and Steve Foreman.
04:55Yeah, we're not both champions. You wouldn't think so.
04:58Bruce and Clay Matthews before your time, but both really,
05:01really good offensive linemen, one Hall of Famer, one all of really good.
05:04Absolutely. That's a good one.
05:05I would put them behind the Mannings and the Watts, but up there for sure.
05:09I've got for you,
05:11Steph and Seth Curry.
05:12So, Seth, way down the list NBA player.
05:14Steph, game changer.
05:16So we just fell off considerably.
05:17Yeah. Now, great brother duo. OK.
05:21Steph Curry, top ten-ish player ever.
05:23Yeah. Seth Curry also played in the NBA.
05:25Seth Curry played in the NBA. He did.
05:26Yeah. But still a good career.
05:28So we're there. How about Devin and Jason McCord?
05:30Yeah, the McCord brothers. That's next.
05:32Yep. And also a media empire.
05:33You got to give them credit for their fame.
05:35You got to give them credit for their post-career success.
05:39Let me throw this at you.
05:41The Harbaugh brothers, not for on-field, they met the Super Bowl.
05:46You got a Super Bowl champ and a guy that's done everything else.
05:49That's a great one. Yeah.
05:51Very good. Here's a good one.
05:52Actually, this is NBA.
05:54These two guys were both awesome.
05:56Powell and Marc Gasol.
05:58Marc Gasol had less of a wick, less ceiling to burn, so to speak.
06:03It was a quicker deal for him.
06:05A good player, man.
06:06But Powell Gasol was a beast.
06:08And Marc Gasol, for a few years, was a star.
06:10Yeah, both really good.
06:11I'll put them up.
06:13Can I go above the Currys?
06:14Like, Steph's a 10 and Seth is a three.
06:17Both Gasols were like sixes and a seven.
06:20Powell, seven and a half.
06:21Marc, six. Fine. Bigger numbers.
06:23I'll put those up there.
06:24Let me throw this at you.
06:25Here's another curveball you weren't ready for.
06:27What about Venus and Serena Williams?
06:29Champions.
06:30So we're going siblings now. Yeah.
06:32We're going sisters.
06:32You wanted a pair of brothers.
06:33I kind of, I morphed it into siblings.
06:37I mean, if you want to look, you want to play that game, I'll play that game.
06:40Because my other one was Reggie and Cheryl Miller.
06:42So, you know, if you don't want to, if you only want to do brothers, that's fine.
06:44I don't know. We don't have to just do brothers.
06:46You want me to be the bad guy on the show?
06:47You're trying to get me canceled.
06:48Yeah, it's pretty obvious.
06:49Like you're dismissive.
06:50And I saw what you did.
06:51No, I am very much pro the Williams is.
06:55I will give you Venus and Serena.
06:57If we're going siblings all purpose.
07:01Would they take the entire cake?
07:04So I know Serena is the greatest female tennis player that ever lived
07:07or right there at the top.
07:09I think Venus is in the conversation of like top five ish.
07:14Maybe I'm off base.
07:15And then maybe overestimate, but I don't think it's crazy top 20.
07:18My lack of tennis knowledge is showing.
07:19Yeah, Harris, look up a list of the best female tennis players all time.
07:24And let me know where Serena and Venus come in on that list
07:28from someone smarter than me.
07:29I think there's a chance then that the Williams
07:31I think there's a chance then that the Williams sisters
07:34are number one on the list ahead of the man in terms of accomplishment
07:37or the Watts or the the Kelsey's.
07:39What about if we're going super old school, the DiMaggio's?
07:43Yeah, because now, Joe, obviously, that's your headliner.
07:46Yeah, should be.
07:47Don't want to go.
07:48Wasn't bad, dude.
07:49Look up Dom DiMaggio's numbers.
07:50I do this like once.
07:51I don't know why, but every several years I end up stumbling
07:54onto his baseball reference page.
07:56And you're like, this is this is Fred Claus just completely slept on
08:00led the league in runs multiple times, led the league in stolen bases.
08:04Led the league.
08:05Grant, it wasn't just like a passenger on team.
08:07It was a good player.
08:08A career to 98.
08:10Come on, dude.
08:10With an 802 OPS, 802 OPS.
08:13He's Fred Claus, man.
08:14He gets no love.
08:15One last one. I want to throw it.
08:16You don't like it. Throw it right back.
08:18Ronday and Tiki.
08:20The bar highly accomplished.
08:22I think they get a bonus point like the McCourty's for being twins, too.
08:25There's a bonus there.
08:26You've got to get a bonus point for Twindom.
08:28Really good players.
08:30OK, I will see that.
08:31I will raise you.
08:32Well, this is not a raise, but I guess it's just adding to the list.
08:36Chris and Kyle Lawson.
08:38Damn it. That's my last one.
08:39Chris and Kyle Long Vernon and Vontae Davis, both in the NFL.
08:43Oh, good pull local kids.
08:46Let's see.
08:47Trayvon and Stefan Diggs.
08:50Yeah, good one.
08:51Speaking of locals, Corey and Kyle Seeger and Major League Baseball.
08:56One last nomination.
08:58So I keep saying one last.
08:58I was going to say, you just you've done that nine times.
09:01But first team, one last for the record.
09:02You don't have to make it your last.
09:04You're acting like you aren't allowed to.
09:06I know this is the end of the list.
09:07Don't get anything else after me.
09:09Not all football.
09:11Chandler, Arthur and John Jones.
09:16Chandler, Arthur and John Jones.
09:18That's Bones Jones from the UFC and Chandler Jones.
09:21Those guys have gone through it mentally and had some baggage and some issues.
09:24Yes, but they are very accomplished athletes for sure.
09:27How about Justin and B.J. Upton?
09:31B.J. Upton never did it.
09:34Like playing that played in the show, obviously was really good.
09:36I like I will disagree with Justin Upton was a really excellent player.
09:40B.J. never fulfilled the promise.
09:41Like there was more hype for him, I felt like, than Justin.
09:43Is that crazy pants?
09:44No, Justin was the number one overall pick.
09:47I guess so was B.J.
09:50He was drafted number one in 2002.
