Putin and Trump violate the 1994 Budapest Memorandum, where Ukraine gave up nuclear weapons in exchange for security and territorial guarantees, former UK Defense Minister Sir Gerald Howarth says. #Trump #Ukraine
Transcript
00:00OK, Sir Gerald.
00:01If I may say, that is an absurd analysis, forgive me, but what we should be looking
00:07at is the Budapest Memorandum of December 1994, which was signed by Boris Yeltsin on
00:15behalf of the Russian Federation, by President Bill Clinton on behalf of the United States,
00:21by Prime Minister John Major on behalf of the United Kingdom, and the then-Ukrainian
00:26President under which Ukraine agreed to give up its entire arsenal of nuclear weapons,
00:32in return for which its independence, its sovereignty, and its existing borders was
00:37to be respected by the parties thereto.
00:40I'm afraid that President, well, of course, Russia is in flagrant breach of that agreement
00:45that was signed by Boris Yeltsin, but I'm afraid the President of the United States
00:49is also now in breach of that agreement by tantamount to agreeing to allow the borders
00:55of Ukraine to be changed from what they were in 1994, and even to be changed without consulting
01:02the Ukrainian people, let alone their President.
01:06I think this is utterly shameful, leaving the United Kingdom as the only man standing
01:10prepared to honour that agreement of 1994.
