00:00I would love to talk about why you decided to start this podcast.
00:04Well, I've built a few large businesses, each one over a billion dollars,
00:09and I see so much stuff that's just nonsense because it's taught by people who've never done business.
00:15You've got professors, you've got consultants, you've got all of these people,
00:19and they teach you this stuff which is just wrong.
00:23What we're going to do is give everybody a different perspective
00:26as to how we disagree, how I disagree.
00:30They can take it or don't take it, but definitely it'll be fun,
00:33and it'll be funny because some of the stuff you can't make up.
00:37I would love to talk about one example of a common one that you think is just really worth discussing today.
00:44So I interview people a lot, you know, all the time for hiring,
00:48and several people I've interviewed said, I said, what do you do all day?
00:53And he goes, well, 35%, 40% of my time goes to making PowerPoints.
01:00Some say, sorry, when do you actually do your work if you're spending 40% of your time doing PowerPoints?
01:08So what I did was in our company I said internally PowerPoints are illegal
01:14because we're not five years old, we don't need pictures, just make bullet points.
01:19Just one page, bullet points.
01:21I don't need circles and stairs and charts and graphs.
01:26And why? It made no sense, especially if you're wasting all this time.
01:31As you've said, people can expect to hear a lot about all of these things that maybe they do every day
01:36and maybe aren't the most efficient practices, and you're trying to help people do away with that.
01:41And so I would love to know who this podcast is for.
01:43It's actually for the investors, retail investors that buy stocks and whatever,
01:49and they don't really understand investing because nobody really taught them.
01:53And all you've got is Wall Street speak, which is really a lot of nonsense.
01:58You've got people who predict stuff all the time.
02:00Predictions are wrong almost all the time, and yet we keep listening to the same predictions.
02:05So somebody's got to really say, OK, how do you actually do this to make sense?
02:11If someone only had 60 seconds to hear your best piece of investment advice, what would that be?
02:15Here's the thing. There's some parts of investing that are broken out into several pieces.
02:20One is gambling, where you say, oh, the stock's going to go through the moon.
02:24Or speculation, where you're putting money in a company that makes no money.
02:29Then there's investing in companies that make money.
02:33And then you look at them and say, what's the risk here?
02:37I don't want to lose my money.
02:39And then there's the fourth kind, which is you put in a bank and inflation eats it away.
02:44So you've got to understand all of them and what their position is, because if you don't understand it, you can't do it.
02:51Absolutely. And I want to know if there's a key takeaway that you could give to the listeners from your podcast.
02:55What would you want that to be?
02:57I think everybody wants to really know how everything works.
03:02And the funniest stuff is the truth.
03:07And when you look at it, you're going to say, oh, my God, why didn't I think of that?
03:13That's what this podcast is about.
03:16It's getting to the obvious.
03:19Talk to me about how you want the community to engage with you and what you want to receive from your audience to best serve them.
03:25OK. Well, I think lots of people want questions.
03:30Look, I've got this investment. Should I do it? Should I not?
03:34Right. Or I'm doing this. I'm going to buy this company.
03:38Should I do it or not? I'm hiring people. What should I do?
03:43Every business has several business within it.
03:46There's hiring, there's making, there's buying.
03:50So everybody, there's questions for everything.
03:54So whatever my experience is from that, I'll be answering those questions.
04:00And if I don't know the answer, I won't answer it.
04:03But you invite all questions then.
04:05Invite all questions. And I mean, there's stuff that I don't know anything about.
04:12No, I don't know anything.
04:14It's a good business practice. Don't preach what you don't know, of course, right?
04:17So it's going to be available on YouTube at bizwithmanoj, that's B-I-Z-W-I-T-H, Manoj, M-A-N-O-J.
04:25And then it'll be available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and everywhere else that people would like to consume their podcasts.
04:30And if people want to submit questions, they can email manoj at businesswithmanoj.com or in the comments on YouTube.
