00:16My name is Ayomidi Shusbo and this is The Nutmeg.
00:19One of the biggest grot games in the history of the Premier League takes centre stage this
00:24weekend as Manchester City will host Liverpool at the Etihad.
00:28Here's a preview of a game.
00:30My name is Ayomidi Shusbo and this is The Nutmeg on Guardian TV.
00:33Alright, so Banjo Tomoa makes a return to The Nutmeg and this time he'll be talking
00:43about his team, Liverpool.
00:44Great to have you on the show.
00:45Oh, it's a pleasure.
00:46Glad to be here once again.
00:47I want it to be a pleasure.
00:48It's Liverpool at the top.
00:49That's incredible.
00:50What is the story of both sides in this season?
00:53Well, I really believe Manchester City have not really had the kind of tactical defence
00:58they would have wanted.
00:59I remember the reverse fixture, the fact that if Liverpool had won that game, they would
01:03have gone 10 points ahead of Manchester City.
01:06If Manchester City had also won that game, they would have been four points as well.
01:09But, you know, the game ended 2-0 and I'm feeling favourable with Liverpool and at this
01:13point in time, Liverpool are now currently in the first point clear of Manchester City.
01:18So it means that a lot is at stake at this point in time.
01:21They are also points ahead of Arsenal in second and you also have to factor in the kind of
01:27injury problems Arsenal have at this point in time.
01:29So I just believe that Liverpool will be their biggest challenger as a competitor if they
01:36are not going to be winning the Premier League.
01:38But this game against Manchester City, take a look at the head-to-head record, 16 wins
01:43for Liverpool, 10 wins for Manchester City, 14 draws as well in between and the last time
01:49Manchester City also won this game at Etihad was back in November 2023.
01:53Incredible.
01:53So it's very, very credible and a lot is at stake in this particular game at the moment.
01:57And you look at City, there's been a lot of short-lived renaissances, if you like.
02:02Let me put it that way.
02:03And maybe this one that happened at the weekend is just another one.
02:07Or do you think they are the real deal now?
02:08I mean, they made some additions in the summer as well.
02:11Omar Mahmoud, we're going to talk about him too.
02:13Well, Manchester City spent, I think, close to 180 million pounds in the summer, bringing
02:19in Niko Gonzalez, Omar Mahmoud, Abdelkader Kusano, who is the first Uzbekistan player
02:24I know, and Victor Reyes as well.
02:26And even against Newcastle last week, Omar Mahmoud got a hat-trick and that was his first
02:31Premier League start, you know, for Manchester City at the eighth tier where he got the hat-trick.
02:35And apart from that, Niko Gonzalez has also shown the tough cookie that he is playing
02:40against Newcastle, I feel, was really, really important in that particular win.
02:44But apart from that, I think there is some form of, you know, renaissance.
02:47I remember this reverse fixture still as well.
02:50Manchester City were, you know, on a beating record of seven consecutive games, but the
02:55same cannot be said at this point.
02:57Although, you know, you also factor in the defeat to Real Madrid, you know, at the eighth
03:00tier stadium.
03:01But, I mean, that was just pure capitulation.
03:03I don't think, you know, you have to give too much into it.
03:06But this particular game, you know, both teams played in midweek.
03:11Manchester City played against Real Madrid, Liverpool also played against Aston Villa.
03:15By the way, that game against Aston Villa would have been, you know, on the weekend
03:18of the 16th of March, if not for the Carabao Cup final.
03:21So obviously, these two teams would be impacted by playing in midweek and it just looks like,
03:26you know, I mean, it's going to also be the round 26 of the Premier League game.
03:29So, you know, the intensity is stepping in.
03:31Players are getting tired.
03:32We are seeing tired legs.
03:33So, I mean, I just feel like this game is going to be, you know, there for both teams
03:38to win.
03:39But who takes it?
03:40Who takes it?
03:41All three points or maybe they share the points.
03:42Football is just like a biscuit.
03:43It can crack on you.
03:44I know.
03:45I'm asking.
03:46I'm asking who takes it.
03:47Who do you reckon takes it?
03:48I believe, I believe it's going to end in a draw.
03:51I believe it's going to end in a draw.
03:52Fair.
03:53I mean, we've seen a lot of entertaining draws in this one.
03:54Now, let's talk about players that could make it really entertaining.
03:57Ome Mamamush, as you mentioned, got a hat-trick, got off the mark for Manchester City after
04:02a couple of games playing in the city's colour, in the colours of city, I beg your pardon.
04:09Right.
04:10And Ome Mamamush is a sensation coming from the German Bundesliga.
04:14But do you see him drawing any sort of comparison to Mohamed Salah?
04:18Well, obviously, the both of them are Egyptians and, you know, even the Egypt national team,
04:24apart from the national team as well, the official expedition of CAF made mention of
04:28him as being the prince of Egypt, while Mohamed Salah is the king of Egypt.
04:31So, obviously, the comparisons will be there.
04:34But for Ome Mamamush, coming for Enchanted Frankfurt, he has been tremendous for Enchanted
04:38Frankfurt over the course of this season, making his dream move as well to Manchester
04:42City, you know, earning a pay rise, significant pay rise, by the way, is earning times three
04:46of what he earned at Enchanted Frankfurt at the moment.
04:48And, you know, he also showed what he's capable of doing, scoring a hat-trick against
04:53Newcastle is no easy feat.
04:55But I really believe that, you know, he's going to be having it tough this time around
04:59against Liverpool.
05:00I mean, we've seen him struggle against Real Madrid, against Arsenal.
05:04So we'll see how this, especially with Mohamed Salah, 23 goals in the Premier League already.
05:08Exactly.
05:09We'll see how this pans out.

05:27Always a pleasure.
05:29Hopefully when I come back again, Liverpool would be 21 points ahead of Manchester City.
05:34And we'll see if they can also match towards the title.
05:37It's been an interesting time to race, by the way.
05:39Thank you very much.
05:40We'll see you in the next one.
05:41Bye for now.
