00:00The office of President of the United States and will to the preserve, protect and defend
00:06the Constitution of the United States.
00:09Barely a month after the inauguration of Donald Trump as President of the United States, transatlantic
00:14relations are on the rocks.
00:19Trade has been one of the main areas of concern, as Trump has threatened to impose heavy tariffs
00:24on imported European goods.
00:28On trade, I have decided for purposes of fairness that I will charge a reciprocal tariff,
00:34meaning whatever countries charge the United States of America, we will charge them.
00:40Unjustified tariffs on the European Union will not go unanswered.
00:46And let me speak plainly.
00:48We are one of the world's largest markets.
00:52We will use our tools to safeguard our economic security and interests.
00:59And we will protect our workers, our businesses and consumers at every turn.
01:04While keeping Europe out of the peace talks in Ukraine, Trump has entered into bilateral
01:09negotiations with Russia and opened the door to granting numerous concessions to Vladimir
01:14Putin.
01:16I don't see any way that a country in Russia's position could allow them, just in their position,
01:23could allow them to join NATO.
01:25I don't see that happening.
01:27And long before President Putin, Russia was very strong on the fact that I believe that's
01:32the reason the war started.
01:34We will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine in the negotiations, providing
01:42security guarantees in reconstruction and as a future member of the European Union.
01:52In the run-up to early elections in Germany, the Vice President of the United States criticized
01:57an alleged decline in freedom of expression in Europe.
02:03The threat that I worry the most about vis-a-vis Europe is not Russia, it's not China, it's
02:08not any other external actor.
02:11And what I worry about is the threat from within, the retreat of Europe from some of
02:18its most fundamental values, values shared with the United States of America.
02:22That is why we will not accept it if external actors in favor of this party intervene in
02:27our democracy, in our elections and in the democratic formation of opinion.
02:35According to a recent study, Europeans now regard the United States as a, quote, necessary
02:40partner rather than an ally.
