00:00It's right up there. Queen, President. It was like rarefied air, you know.
00:05You have to sort of, you know, pinch yourself. It really has been quite an enormous and amazing
00:12journey. Angela, Madam President, welcome. Welcome to my humble living room. Even like just playing
00:20in a sandbox, pretend that you must get a kick out of that. People calling you the President.
00:25How does it compare on a scale of Queens and, you know, director of like Secret Services and
00:32all the incredible sort of titles, lofty titles you've held? It's right up there. Queen,
00:38President. It was like rarefied air, you know. Amazing. I read that your character in the next
00:45like Mission Impossible movie may have been like elevated somewhat. So maybe this, maybe this is
00:51looking good on you. Yeah. It may have been a bit of a nostalgia trip you doing this show and
00:59remembering back in the day when you and De Niro kind of got together for that movie.
01:04How different an experience was this? Yeah, it was different because, you know, 20 something
01:10years ago, the score. I mean, just the idea of being in the movie or being in a scene with De
01:14Niro and being in a movie that Marlon Brando was in. Yeah, I was nervous even though I had
01:20no scenes with him, you know, although I'm in the hotel and he's actually on set. It was just
01:25like it was still so, so, you know, you were so close to those that you admire so greatly and who,
01:32you know, legendary actors in the industry and to have, you know, here we are a couple of decades
01:38later and continue to just work hard and dream and find myself, you know, in the in the Oval
01:47Office sitting across from him as president and former president. You have to sort of,
01:54you know, pinch yourself. It really has been quite an enormous and amazing journey.
02:00What was the chemistry like with you guys this time around? Was it any different to how it was
02:06back in the day? I don't know if you guys had seen each other spend much time together like
02:09outside of these projects since. Oh my gosh. Well, he lives on the East Coast and I'm more West Coast
02:15and most of, you know, so I was called to the East Coast to, you know, film this series, which is
02:22always nice to go on location and the location that you love, great city of New York. So, but
02:27no, I haven't had any, I hadn't run into him or seen, you know, maybe at an award show he's across
02:33the, you know, the ballroom or something, but I hadn't run into him at all from that time to this.
02:41But it's amazing once you come together, there is, there is, you know, as Kali, as actor, actor,
02:48who have worked together, there is like this sort of feeling in the air, this sense that, you know,
02:55you've skipped those introductory steps that, that bit of like nervousness and then, you know,
03:01a little bit of intimidated, like, should I be? And there's, so there's a, a comfortability
03:08that's there and welcome. What's your, what's your sense when you get scripts nowadays,
03:13do you get a sense of like television really has become the kind of the blue chip,
03:18where's all the best kind of scripts, some of the best performances, even the best excitement
03:22of when a show comes out now is, is comparable to, to when the biggest kind of 10 peg movies
03:28are coming out. What's your sense of that shift over the last kind of 20 odd years?
03:32Yeah, you definitely have seen it since didn't been a part of it, you know,
03:37decades ago was just more segmented. And it's like, you know, actors that you find on film,
03:43you wouldn't find, you know, on television with regularity, the frequency that we have today,
03:48you wouldn't find them on the stage, you know, in New York on Broadway, but everything is shift.
03:53And I really appreciate it because, you know, our interests are so varied. The storytellers
03:58are so varied. You don't know where you'll find them. Some are in, you know, on television,
04:03some are on Broadway, and are, and of course, some are on film. So I really appreciate that
04:10you have more options, just like the audiences definitely have more options, more viewing
04:16options today as well. So you can find good work everywhere. And this certainly was one with the,
04:24the script, you know, from, you know, our screenwriters, the director, Leslie Glatter,
04:29who's one of the best in the industry. And, and now even now, now, to work a little bit
04:36with more frequency with female directors who are just shining, doing their thing,
04:42so capable and creative. And, and of course, a great cast of actors, you know, from De Niro,
04:51down and through, you know, all the way. Well, Madam President,
04:55it was like a no brainer, no brainer of something that could turn out as well as it has.
05:03Well, I'm not surprised because I've seen the first couple of episodes and they are
05:07very, very engrossing. Madam President, that's all the time I can take from you at this time.
05:11I'm hoping to see you and Denzel get back together at some point. Some of that Malcolm X chemistry,
05:15disappointing that he's joining potentially the next, the next Black Panther movie. And as you
05:20all kind of escaped, but let's see what happens in the future. I will catch you on the next one
05:26before they kill me for taking too much of your time. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do
05:30next. I'll pardon you. I pardon you. Thank you, Madam President.
