Boris Johnson wrote Wednesday that President Trump’s statements about Ukraine “are not intended to be historically accurate, but to shock Europeans into action.”
At the #FortuneGlobalForum in November 2024, the former U.K. prime minister expressed concern about the genuine risk of a deal being made during the Russia-Ukraine war that is not in the interest of “freedom and democracy.”
Johnson’s comments come after Trump falsely blamed Ukraine for starting the war with Russia, and called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy “a dictator." The U.S. and Russia have recently started direct talks on ending the war, but without Ukraine’s involvement.

00:00But I am absolutely convinced that it would be a disaster for the world if Ukraine were
00:05to go down.
00:07And I think there is a genuine risk that a deal will be done that is not in the interests
00:12of freedom and democracy.

00:22pretty tough on Putin.
00:23He was.
00:24He gave the Ukrainians the javelin, shoulder-launched anti-tank weapons, broke the taboo on giving
00:31such lethal weaponry to Ukraine, paved the way for lots of other countries to do the
00:37same and helped the Ukrainians pretty decisively in that battle for Kiev.
