00:00There's not many public spaces left that really anybody can go into, there's no costs,
00:06it's a warm space that people can go in and do their research, they're studying,
00:10and also from an educational point of view, the books are there, the researchers are there online,
00:16and it's something I think we should all be promoting.
00:19You can't replace that anywhere else. A mobile system, which is what they're offering,
00:24a van going round, will not offer any of those advantages.
00:29It's just this sense of the small communities being hollowed out of all of their amenities
00:37and just becoming a place where people live.
00:40When I was a child, libraries were like cathedrals, you went in
00:43and it was like entering a church, it was so quiet. That's not the case now,
00:48libraries have moved on, they've adapted to the 21st century,
00:52and there's a host of activities going on within your library.
00:55There are really networks for you, if you're not religious,
01:04if you don't like drinking, because most places have got a pub,
01:11there's no way to meet other people.
01:14Think beyond cost, think of benefits and social benefit,
01:18on the economic boost that a library gives an area,
01:22with the kind of ability to get information, and the community,
01:25think about the communities that you represent.
01:28You're not there to touch services, you're there to support communities.
