Paths in Market Drayton are being uplifted by trees and we see the effect that has on pedestrians especially those on a mobility scooter.

00:00Barry, hello sir. Hello. So we're here in Market Drayton, I'm nearly tumbling myself
00:11on the floor. We're here in Market Drayton and Barry, what's your last name? Salter.
00:16Barry Salter, so you're a local resident? Yes. So what's this path called Barry, how
00:21do we describe where we are? It's the Queen's car park. It's the Queen's Street car park
00:25leading towards the factory shop. So we're here to discuss pavements and trees. You have
00:36seen a scooter, we've got trees running alongside this path, they've obviously been here quite
00:41a while. Talk us about your experience and your concerns going down this path on a mobility
00:47scooter. My concerns about these routes that have made this pavement uneven, it's not just
00:56for myself, it's for other people like parents with pushchairs and prams, carers pushing
01:04wheelchairs and partially sighted people or blind people, or the elderly that are having
01:15difficulty in walking. These are a real trip hazard. And obviously, you know, if you look
01:23at the physics on it, a little, well I say a little bump, it's a good size there, but
01:27by the time that's kind of projected up to the, you know, top cabin, i.e. you put your
01:32bar on it, sitting in the twitch, you can really see as you go along, it really does
01:35rock you about doesn't it? It does rock, not only does it make you go up and down, it can
01:41tilt you from side to side. Yeah, yeah. And, you know, it's quite a difficult thing. And I know, as I've said, I can stop using this in shops elsewhere, but why should I?
01:55Yeah. And your experience in market drating in general, in terms of paths, is this, obviously
02:03this is a particularly bad one, but do you have the, you know, sort of issues around
02:06the town? This is a particularly bad path, but there are other trip hazards all over
02:13the town. Yeah. Especially around the town centre. Friends of mine have tripped and fallen
02:19and had quite serious head injuries where they've hit the side of a building from tripping
02:25over. Yeah. And we haven't got time for me to take you around town and show you all of
02:31them. But it's not just that, sometimes I'm forced onto the road because the pavements
02:36are so bad, and then I have to deal with potholes in the roads, which is difficult.
02:44So your message to the powers that be, what would it be? Spend some money. Yeah, get it
02:50sorted basically. Spend some money. And, you know, market drating's a lovely town, and
02:57I'd just like it to be a safer and a town to be proud of. Yeah. Well Barry, thank you
03:04for showing us what it's like from the perspective of a wheelchair user on this path that is
03:11a bit of a stake, it has to be said. Thank you. Thank you Barry, all the best sir. And
03:15thank you.
