00:18The biggest problem here in Davao Region is the cases of underreported or underdiagnosed rabies cases.

00:25That's why when it comes to the hospital, those who have been bitten by a dog or cat, they usually die immediately.

00:34The Department of Health Region 11 intensified their coordination with local government units to intensify the campaign against rabies.

00:44The agency is now alarmed at the increase in the number of deaths due to rabies.

00:49In 2024, 36 people died.

00:54This is higher than the number of deaths due to rabies in 2023, which is at 24.

01:02Animal bite cases were at more than 120,000 in 2024.

01:08According to the DOH, there is a 1 million pesos fund for the vaccine against rabies this year.

01:15The central office will add 1,800 vials.

01:20But this is not enough because the number of animal bite cases is also increasing.

01:25The secretary ordered our regions and LGUs to coordinate because the region and national government will also help to reduce the need for rabies vaccines.

01:39He has instructions that if our budgets can afford it, let's do it first. Let's augment it.

01:45The DOH encouraged the pet owners to be responsible.

01:49We have seen that most of the dogs that are bitten are tamed or are in their homes.

02:03The Animal Welfare Group urged the pet owners to be vigilant and not wait for a free vaccine against rabies to take care of themselves.

02:32The DOH added that we should not be complacent because most of the rabies-bitten animals are domestic.

02:38Aside from LGUs, the DOH 11 is ready to coordinate with the DA to strengthen animal vaccination.
