Scheim: "Mahomes is the most overrated quarterback in football." Agree?
Transcript
00:00The NFL sees more value in Aaron Rodgers than they do in Bill Belichick.
00:03I don't know if Aaron Rodgers has much left.
00:06I don't either.
00:07I, I watched that game, I saw Colin Coward has been like more deranged than normal by
00:12the way, like.
00:13Yeah, he's been kind of on one lately.
00:15Really weird, and he was saying how Aaron Rodgers was great the second half of the season
00:19without like, not joking, Aaron Rodgers sucked.
00:22He was good in garbage time when games were over and he just kind of threw the ball willy
00:27nilly and when his season was officially over because they were out of the playoffs,
00:31all of a sudden he just funneled every target to Devontae Adams and they, he looked kind
00:34of good because if you just look at the season total stats, he technically had a better year
00:39than Patrick Mahomes.
00:41Like if you just look at the touchdowns, interceptions, yards, all that stuff, it was better than
00:46Patrick Mahomes this year, but nobody on planet earth believes Aaron Rodgers is anywhere close
00:51to Patrick Mahomes.
00:52If you actually watch the football games, you know for a fact Aaron Rodgers was not
00:56that good this year.
00:57But I will say this though, Mahomes, the last two seasons, hasn't even been top 15 in stats.
01:06No, he's not.
01:07And it's, people talk about the weapons, we all talk about it, but Patrick Mahomes has
01:12more weapons than the Patriots did for their Super Bowl winning teams, 0-7 obviously was
01:17different, but I watched Mahomes, he's had a passer rating of 93 and 92 the last two
01:22seasons, which is mediocre in 20 years ago, and it's borderline bad in today's NFL.
01:29If you're a great starting quarterback, you should be right around 100 at this stage.
01:34And I am fascinated to see how the Chiefs build around him this offseason, what they
01:39do, obviously we both think Kelsey's gone, but it's just so interesting that like, there
01:47isn't a conversation about Mahomes' performance, even in the aftermath of that loss, which
01:51he was awful in.
01:52I think it's just because like all regular season, they were winning games, so they just
01:56kind of overlooked the bad numbers and didn't care because the Chiefs were, you know, 15
02:00and 1.
02:01And it's like, well, you know, they're just finding ways to win and Mahomes is doing what
02:04Mahomes does and winning late in games and not making a ton of mistakes, even though
02:08he threw a handful of interceptions this year.
02:10And so I think people just overlook it because it's part of the same reason why they were
02:15anointing the Chiefs the next great dynasty before they had even three-peated.
02:19Like that's, that's the whole reason people just, I don't know what it is, this narrative
02:24that kind of just took over national media post Tom Brady in that Patrick Mahomes is
02:29like the next coming of Christ and they just, nobody can ever say anything bad about Patrick
02:35Mahomes.
02:36And so that's just-
02:37But isn't it interesting though?
02:38Like I'm sitting here, if I was at ESPN today, to me, it's a fair question to ask what happened
02:45to Mahomes the last two regular seasons, minus the stat padding in the Superbowl.
02:49He was borderline awful.
02:51Basically, I mean, he cost them that Superbowl.
02:54You could say that.
02:55Yes, he did.
02:56Absolutely.
02:57He did.
02:58And so you sit here and it's like, okay, so he was going to be coronated the goat and
03:03now he's awful and mediocre in the regular season.
03:06And it's like, well, what's going to happen with Travis Kelsey?
03:09It's just such a bizarre double standard.
03:10You want to take Curtis?
03:11You want a good hot take?
03:12Yeah.
03:13Who do you think Mahomes is the most overrated quarterback in football?
03:16Changed my mind.
03:17Hey, ah, I, I would say Ken Laird would argue either Trevor Lawrence or Justin Herbert.
03:24Yeah.
03:25But they're not even that overrated.
03:27Like they're like, nobody has Justin Herbert as their number one quarterback.
03:32So if you were to start today, I haven't thought about this at all and you're building for
03:36the next five years, okay, four to five years, rank me the quarterbacks that you would have
03:43ahead of Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson.
03:51That's probably end of list.
03:52I'll be honest.
03:53Not burrow.
03:54No.
03:55He just gets hurt too much.
03:56Like to my home's his credit.
03:57The one thing my homes doesn't do is miss football games.
03:59He like plays every single week.
04:01So yeah, I would probably do that.
04:03But like, I just, I think people overlook how much of a benefit it has been for my homes
04:08to play with Andy Reid for his entire career and what Andy Reid has done for him with the
04:13offense, how easy it was when he first came in as quarterback and everything like that
04:18and what he's taught him.
04:19Like I, people just kind of overlooked that.
04:21And so, which is why I'm really curious to see what my homes, his career will look like
04:26post Andy Reid, just like Tom Brady had to do a career, you know, uh, post great defense
04:31Oh one, two, three, uh, or three and four.
04:35And then like post Randy Moss and Wes Welker, he had to kind of change himself multiple
04:40times throughout his career.
04:42And I'm kind of curious to see how that looks from my homes.
04:44Because I mean, since last two seasons has been, as you put it like kind of pedestrian
04:52and I wouldn't even say kind of pedestrian, very pedestrian from my homes.
04:56And he's really had like two amazing seasons.
04:59It was that first season in 18 and then 2022 where it threw for 5,200 yards.
05:03Like those were insane seasons.
05:06The other seasons were good, but it was really just the super bowl wins that were the whole
05:11reason people were saying my homes was the best quarterback in football.
05:15Yeah.
05:16I, it's hard for me to say Lamar and Josh over Patrick because of the head to head in
05:22the playoffs.
05:23But, but my thing is Curtis, if you put Josh Allen on that chiefs team and gave him everything
05:28Patrick my homes had and just switch teams and give Patrick my homes, Sean McDermott
05:33and that bills team does, do you think, do you think my home still wins that football
05:37game?
05:38Oh no, without a doubt.
05:39If you flip quarterbacks in the AFC championship, the chiefs win with, with Josh Allen easily.
05:43And that's kind of where I'm at.
05:44Like my home just has a better GM.
05:46He has a better head coach, a better support system.
05:49Like it's just everything about the Jesus better than the bills of the Ravens.
05:53And it's just, and I think that's the major, if Lamar Jackson had Andy Reed, the, he would,
06:00he would probably would have won three straight MVPs.
06:03Right.
06:04And JC three one six in the Twitch chat is very enraged about Brady saying he had an
06:0986.2 rating in his first Superbowl.
06:12Yeah.
06:13Did you know that the stats are very different in the early two thousands before they cultified
06:18the NFL with Bill Pulley and changing every rule to benefit receivers and on offense.
06:23We've also told you a million times, Tom Brady was a game manager in his first season as
06:26the quarterback of the Patriots.
06:28And in his second year as a starter, third year in the NFL, you know what Tom Brady did?
06:32He led the NFL in touchdown passes with 24, which is basically what these guys get in
06:36the first half of the season.
06:37The game has changed.
06:38I would have, I would beg you implore you to pay attention, but either way, I'm glad
06:42you're listening and watching on Twitch.
06:44You can find us at W E I you can use the odyssey app and coming up next, we'll continue how
06:49we're going to build the Patriots this off season.
06:52Where are you?
06:53617-779-7937.
06:54And his chimes take that he would take Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen ahead of Mahomes dumber
07:02or better than his Montana sucks one.
07:05We'll get your thoughts.
