00:00Hi, my name is Christine, and I've been living here for almost a year now in Karama.
00:18I'm paying $2,500 for a master's bedroom.
00:21Karama is a bit crowded, but what I love most about Karama is that it's very safe.
00:28If you can see, groceries are everywhere, restaurants are open 24 hours.
00:32So I can walk freely at night, and I'm safe.
00:35I can go anywhere, I can eat anytime, I can shop anytime I want.
00:41So we stay in a three-bedroom hall in Karama.
00:44The building is right in the background.
00:46We pay $72,000 for a three-bedroom.
00:48That's probably the cheapest rent you'll get in the whole of Karama for a three-bedroom.
00:51If you go by RERA, a three-bedroom in Karama would be in the range between $90,000 to $120,000.
00:56A two-bedroom would be between $70,000 to $80,000.
00:59So paying three-bedroom, hall, kitchen, massive place, I think that's a steal, actually.
01:06So I've been in Karama for 37 years.
01:08In fact, when my dad came over here, it was in the late 70s, actually.
01:13That time, I think the rents we were paying for a two-bedroom was $7,000.
01:16Yeah, we have been 37 years in Karama.
01:19My mom has been here for 42 years, and she's seen the growth of this place.
01:23So I dub myself as the king of Karama.
01:26One of the reasons, obviously, being here for 37 years.
01:29And I think I've seen this place grow, you know, from playing on the footpath, from playing
01:34in the mud.
01:35You know, we have seen landmarks change, like hypermarkets, seven hypermarkets come.
01:40I can take you to places where you've had eight restaurants, management come, go.
01:45Any place anybody wants to get stuck, if they enter into Karama, they call Savio, okay,
01:48where are we?
01:49We are stuck over here.
01:50I can tell you about Karama.
01:51You know, it's so small on the map of Dubai, but it's the food capital of Dubai.
01:55You know, you go anywhere, you'll find food, food, and food.
01:58People come to Karama for shopping, you'll get second-hand goods, third-hand goods, you'll
02:02get first-hand goods, you'll get food of all sorts.
02:05But Karama is the place to be.
