00:00We're at the launch of Al Futtaim IKEA's first ever electric truck at Yaas Mall in
00:06Yaas Island, Abu Dhabi.
00:07Today we're joined by Vinod Jain, who's the Managing Director of Al Futtaim IKEA.
00:12He will tell us a little bit about how this will drive IKEA's efforts to a more sustainable
00:17future.
00:18I think it's, you know, if you look at the responsibility of having a sustainable future
00:24lies with all of us.
00:26We are using this event to demonstrate our commitment to environmental stewardship, also
00:32our alignment to the UAE Ministry of Energy's commitment to have all the vehicles that is
00:39running on the UAE roads, the electric vehicles to constitute 50% of all the vehicles that
00:45are running on UAE roads by 2050.
00:48It is also a commitment, it's also part of a broader commitment to the community that
00:54we live in, you know, to help them live a more sustainable life at home, also to have
00:59the better everyday life at home, but within the confines of this planet.
01:02We take a lead role in making sure that we cut emissions and also lead the decarbonisation
01:11of the transport industry.
01:15This truck, for example, it will reduce 29 tonnes of carbon in a year.
01:22So it parts it, you know, then the other thing is the electric trucks are quite silent, which
01:27means, you know, you also contribute to less noise pollution.
01:31We also, if you look at it, when people buy from us and we plan to increase the number
01:37of zero emission trucks in our fleet over the coming, you know, months and years.
01:42So you know, we want also the customers to understand that when they buy furniture from
01:46us, you know, it is going to be delivered in a sustainable way, which is not harming
01:49their environment.
01:51And it's part of our commitment to the people who live in the markets that we operate in.
01:56Our aim is to make sure that we reduce our carbon emissions by 50% by 2030.
02:06That's an ambitious goal.
02:07But if you, you know, they say if you aim at the sun, you reach the moon.
02:11So we have to make sure that we stretch ourselves, aim for, you know, stretch goals and be confident
02:17that we can achieve that.
02:20And over a period of time, and again, this electric truck is not just something new that
02:26is coming.
02:27It is part, it's a symbol of our commitment to sustainability.
02:31And as I've said before, we plan to roll out more and more electric trucks in the future.
02:36And by 2030, when we reduce our carbon emissions by 50%, that means we will reduce our greenhouse
02:43gas emissions more than what our entire supply chain, you know, emits.
02:52Sustainability is good for business.
02:54The trucks, you know, they are very, you know, cost efficient over a longer term because
03:00there is no fuel cost.
03:02These trucks also have, you know, especially the engine parts are the most used parts and
03:07most mobile parts.
03:09And it has less of these mobile parts.
03:11That means less repairs, less repairs, less maintenance.
03:14So even from a cost perspective, the electric trucks are much more cost efficient in the
03:20longer term than our regular trucks.
